Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of resurrecting my dad Z3 from a 3 year hibernation, its a loverly Titan Silver 2001 2.2i Msport, with a blue hood and blue black leather interior.

After fault reading a few things and fixing (ABS Sensor) + lots of battery related issue. I have noticed that the ZKE4 body control module isn't listed in INPA (special tests) and in DIS shows that it can't communicate with it.

I wanted to make sure that Im not going mad! Does the ZKE4 module show as a testable device INPA/DIS?

thanks

Will

PS.. yes I am using the under bonnet 20 paceman connector!

Welcome from Ireland - what an interesting project you've started - I'm sure some of the experts will be along soon to assist. Good luck with the restoration! Post some photos of the car please.

Welcome from Aylesbury :p

Good luck with your project Any pictures please

:welcome: to the forum from West Cumbria, sorry I can't help with the problem but one of Site Whizzes will be along soon.

Thanks! Ill get some pics up soon.

After a bit google, I think the ZKE4 should definitely be visible in INPA/DIS. So I'm going to check out if there a problem with the K line Star Bus, I found a really useful link here:

https://www.bmwgm5.com/default.htm

The ZKE appear fully functional with; mirrors, windows, indicators, remote central locking, roof, can't remember if controls anything else...

*Need to check if the blinkers are in operation when i remote lock, as i think if they don't that might be a good indication of a problem with the module or k line...

Does anyone know where the K Line output is on the ZKE4? I couldn't find its location.

If anyone has any other ideas or has had the same I'd appreciate your thoughts .

thanks

Sorry haven't ever tried the INPA/DIS software, I just have a basic code reader. I think @Aceman may have used it though...
Err no sorry, I have the BM Cables package which has INPA/DIS but I have never had cause to use it yet so unfortunately I am inable to advise.

Unfortunately I've not tried to use the ZKE4 module, but I would have thought INPA/DIS should be all encompassing

Sorry can't be of any direct help I have BM Technics package but have only scratched the surface with INPA. I did find this link when I was digging around file:///Users/colinjones/Documents/INPA_FAQ.pdf awhile ago - there may be something in these FAQ's which may be of help.

im in a bit of a fix with inpa, got mine on a memory stick which installs then tries to go online for an activation code but the site no longer exists:( dont remember if mine lists the zke unit though as i generally used it to check and clear codes. i need to find someone with a disk that doesnt require the activation code.

it is in INPA, its in the body menu:
Central body electronics ZKE4

I have used it to open and close windows and lock/unlock the doors.

Thanks, yup i know where it is sadly it not communicating on my car. If you have chance could you go into INPA and Select "F9 Special tests" and then "Identification" and choose to print/copy and paste the output.

This will list all the modules as I'd like to know if there are any others missing on mine...

thanks
Will

I ended up purchasing the Bcables stuff so I could avoid the trauma of instal of all the BMW software...

If you have the old BMCables/BMtechnic suite I think someone mentioned on M3cutters (see the coding section) a workaround to avoid going to the know defunct activation server... have a look there..

Hi,

Please could anyone put up a print out of the following output from INPA:

Go to Special Test the Identification... This should then list all the modules.

Preferably a manual car...

It would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Will
