Hello and welcome from Surrey, a code reader is a first rtep for diagnosing problems. They are quite cheap on Amazzon or E bay. :welcome:

Yeah, my first car was an Austin A35!....... A better passion wagon than a Z3 though:rolleyes:

OK, so day one of rain and I've found my leak! I was presuming it'd have one somewhere.

Water doesn't come in from where the rubber meets the window, but from inside the rubber where it meets the roof. So I get a steady drip inside.

Any idea if this is the famed 'A-pillar issue' I keep reading about?

Sorry to be such an amateur.

If it's dripping from the 'A' pillar region, and from your description, it sounds like it is!

Hi all,

I've bought a 2001 Z3, as my first car - having learnt a bit late in life at 28.

It's got just over 70,000 miles on it and pretty good shape from what I can tell. I'm based in Romford, so if there are any Z3 enthusiasts who could take a look over the car and give me some recommendations - then that would be awesome!

I've got an engine warning light that was on when I bought the vehicle, I couldn't see anything wrong with the car and am pretty certain that this was due to the fuel filler cap previously being loose.

Anyway,

I'm not hugely knowledgeable about these cars, so this'll be a fun journey!
Hi @David Taylor and welcome to the forum from the other side of the Pond in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey..................Frankie

So the Z3 has been in for a 'health check' with BMW.

Anyone care to watch the video they make and let me know how bad this thing is?
http://video.citnow.com/vxfWc4fx1qf

They treated it pretty bad from what I can tel.. Went in with both mirror glass intact, left without drivers one. In without a scratch (as per my profile pic), out with a huge scratch visible in the video.

I'm a bit bummed out now. I think most of the work is small stuff I can get done over the next few months. I didn't expect it to be perfect, but for it to come back worse than before it went in :(

So there is nothing out of the ordinary he has pointed out for a car this age. Mechanically it's all pretty straight forwards stuff to sort out, and the sort of things that tend to wear out through age. Not sure on your mechanical abilities, but almost all of that is DIYable.

As for the damage, then I'm not sure what to say other than to challenge them over it. They may have some CCTV they could refer to perhaps?

Really appreciate you feeding back on that, thanks!

It's a nice project for me to work on, the Haynes manual is in the post!

Just take your time, and keep an eye out for the Euro & GSF car parts offers and it should take the sting out of most of the costs. Sign up for their emails so you know when the discount events are.

For BMW o.e.m. parts, Sopers of Lincoln give a forum discount and are very good. They won't deliver bulky or delicate stuff, but Rybrook BMW will. Have dealt with both and they are very good.

Bonzo.
