Z3 diff mount movement captured on video

Zooming in on the video, when it's under load it looks like the diff bush is knackered - delaminated at the least. Hard to tell without any context of what he's doing/has done to the car.
 
The black section at the bottom opens up when he accelerates, so I'd definitely say his diff bush is knackered.if he wasn't so far from the 'shed we'd sort it for him ;)

Very nice work and a very interesting repair. Wonder how long since it was installed?

How strong can the glue be that they use between the rubber and the metal ring?
Surely it would pull apart pretty quickly with that kind of movement but as long as the rubber is still doing it's job of damping then it's ok?
Or is it the rubber has gotten too soft allowing too much movement which pulls the rubber loose from the metal.

I'm pretty sure this guy will have to do a dual ear and beefier reinforcements given he's dropped a V8 in it and doesn't expect that single ear to last.

There are some serious V8 Z3's in the US.

The problem is commenting when you don't know anything else about his project. Looking purely at the video it looks like he doesn't really have much of a clue - but that could be an incorrect assumption.

As for the movement of the diff, it's exaggerated because of what looks to be a failing bush. He either knows about it, and some accompanying text would show that - or he just chucked in a big lump, stood back and then popped on his rose tinted specs. Or he stood back and realised that he probably should have done more work.

It's certainly not pretty what he's done in the trunk, but function over look is OK if its your own car.

The question is whether with a new OE diff bush (or perhaps uprated one) the video would be less dramatic. That said, things are designed to move around underneath, so I'm not really sure that the video really serves much of a purpose. If things weren't meant to move around, then they wouldn't be using rubber bushes on them...
 
Absolutely, that's the whole point of mounting things with rubber.

After watching this...I am never ever going to attempt any drift on my Z ever again...:bag:
