Hi , Just bought a very good Z3 1.9, however I have an issue with the aerial and was wondering if the aerial/parts are still available from BMW. Looks like the aerial is snapped and Part of the aerial is still in the socket?. When replaced are you able to unscrew the aerial? Or is it fixed rigid system? My previous E85 Z4 had a aerial you could unscrew. Photo 1 is how the car came, didn’t look right and when I investigated it just pulled up and came out. Any advice would be welcome.

The aerial on my E85 Z4 is basically the same as the one on my old Z3 David. Regards fitting the "mast" part that is.

Tony.

It appears that you need a new aerial base, I think I saw that Andy @spurs fan in a coupe has one at the moment for sale.

Tony.

ps. I can post a picture of the one off my Z4 tomorrow. Can you post a picture of the inside of the base on your car?

Thanks, I will have a look at the weekend to see what’s going on with the base.

Looks like the top part of the main unit that the aerial screws into has broken looking at your second picture.
the rounded part that the mast is screwed into fits inside the wing grommet, its shaped inside to accept the rounded part.
There is a small wire inside the unit that connects to the base of the screw in opening that the mast connects with when its mounted in the base unit. You will find that the wire has probably been snapped off, you may be able to solder it back together but doubt the broken plastic will glued back together. It probably wouldn't take the stress of putting it back in the wing grommet.
When taking the unit out of the boot, be careful with the wires attached to it, one is live 12v and can easily short out against the body.
