Hello, I have a Z3 1997 1.9 so pre facelift and the lockdown project is to retrofit an electric pump for the roof. I have sorted switch and roof microswitch but am struggling on pump connections. The photos show the plugs on the loom in the pump area. There seems two pumps 840722401 and 84103059 - I have obtained the latter but the connector does not match. Is there an adaptor that goes between these two connections? Any advice welcome please? Nic

Try asking one of our resident breakers Nic. @Synclare , @spurs fan in a coupe , @mrscalex (not strictly a breaker) they may have cars with looms which could be used?

Tony.

Those two part numbers are the same part I think. One supercedes the other. I suspect there's only one means of connecting and the part of the loom you are looking for is tucked out under the way somewhere.

I'll have a look on my facelift car tomorrow and see if I can remind myself. I do have a facelift loom I cut connectors off from too if required.

Many thanks for the replies. I have had a good look around the loom and can not find any more connectors - just 3 = the 2 shown in the photo, plus the one for the roof microswitch. Its no problem to chop of connectors and hard wire if needed.

I’ll go out shortly to look. I would be amazed if there wasn’t a simple answer as BMW standardise their looms apart from brake and auto transmission config I believe.

Here's the photos from my 2002 facelift. One plug which appears to be hardwired into the loom. Though I wasn't able to trace it back to where in situ.

I think there are 2 possibilities. 1) a pre-facelift car is different to a facelift car - quite possible but I've never heard mention of it before in this context. Maybe the earliest cars didn't have a power roof as an option 2) the part of the loom you are looking for is tucked away somewhere you are not spotting - also quite possible as it could be hidden back inside the rear bulkhead for instance.

I've looked at 97 wiring charts and they are the same in this area as 2000 on charts. They both show what seems to be a hardwired connector with the same feeds.

I've done a complete loom replacement on a Z3 before. And nothing struck me as unusual about the roof pump loom.

I'll try and get a look at my scrap loom at some point to see where the connector goes back to. But can't promise when. I also have a facelift with no power roof so can try and see where the connector is tucked away. Again can't promise when. All my stuff apart from the car in the pictures is at my Parents'.

There may be another answer. You really need someone with a pre-facelift 1997 (not later pre-facelift as they can be different) to give their view.

You're welcome.

If this was trying to eg put pre-facelift seats into a facelift car it's a wiring pickle. This one I'm inclined to think will have a simple answer.

Hello,

I have the same problem.........I wrote on another forum, but ..... nothing.

1) sorry for my english......:)
2) One month ago I decided, import electric roof into my Z3. On Ebay I bought complete roof....switch, hydraulic pump, cables.......BUT, when I looking into my trunk and found connector for my hydraulic pump I have only this connector near left rear light(foto3)....but this connector have 6 pins in one line (but only 5 pins are active)(foto1). Connector from hydraulic pump have 8 pins in two lines (5 pins are active)...and totaly diferrent type of this connector(foto2).

My connector in my trunk is unique......I searched on Ebay, on forums....but all Hydraulic pumps have only this 8 pins connector.......

All things for electric roof I found on correct places.....connector for microswitch, connector for switcg on rear place for switches......parts for hydraulic piston......all......but I have only problem with connector......

I have all manuals for this operation from BMW....but nothing......

Is this my connector correct for hydraulic pump?

What now?

thx for help

I have BMW Z3, 2,8l, 1997 april......

Hello, the connector you show is the one. I just cut off the connectors then crimped the wires together. Good luck. Nic

Hello,

thx for your answer, but do you have any schema? Or how to connect your cables to your plug?

Cut plug in pump - OK
Cut plug in my car - OK
Create new plugs on both sides (i have plugs) - OK
Join cables.....but how? (colors)

How match the colors between car plug and pump plug?

In car plug I have:
Red-Yellow(wide cable)
Red-Yellow(wide cable)
Brown-Yellow
Brown-Red
Blue-Red

In pump plug:
Red-Yellow(wide cable)
Blue-Red(wide cable)
Blue-Red 2x
Brown-Yellow
Brown-Red

THX....I am not happy about this

Thx,

Yes this is fantastic.....:).

Final resolution will be.....

Red-Yellow(wide cable) connect to Blue-Red(wide cable)
Red-Yellow(wide cable) connect to Red-Yellow(wide cable)
Brown-Yellow(thin cable) connect to Brown-Yellow(thin cable)
Brown-Red(thin cable) connect to Brown-Red(thin cable)
Blue-Red(thin cable) connect to Blue-Red 2x(thin cable)

When I finish this project on my Z3, I will confirm this solution:)

Thx

The part you are after will need to come from a breaker. I had the same problem and eventually exchanged it for a spare switch I had. I suggest you put a post out on this forum and try some car breakers who specialise in BMW. Nic
