Am in Scotland man. Been using wee car all week and despite oil change, filter, thermostat, still returning only around 30mpg on 60mile commute @ 65/70mph or so. It has never been good on fuel despite low mileage, suggestions? Air filter and plugs will be done as a matter of course. Pulls clean and hard right through rev range when you need it to, forgotten how much fun it is!!

I would try something like Forte fuel treatment for a couple of low fuel cycles, certainly can't do any harm mate.

Tony.

ps. Do you have a printout of the emissions, pass or fail.

Is that mpg on tank full to tank full check or OBC? If accurate, I think best you can hope for is 33/34 (which I have got out of mine on long road trips) but that plummets on town or hard driving. As others say use a cleaner and good quality fuel - my injectors were well fouled after having been run on cheap fuel by previous owner. Do you have access to a diagnostics package to do a few checks?

My M44 did well over 42mpg driving to southern Spain this year. Generally around 35mpg in normal use. This is brim to brim, but OBC is reasonably accurate.:)

Can maybe find emissions in original fail. I would have expected high thirties commuting, my e39 525i got almost 40mpg sometimes more!

I do 43 mpg with E5 and under 40 with E10, which is (unfortunately) more and more common....:(
...and very distructive for pre 90s cars:(
With petrol without ethanol I was doing 47 mpg. Good times!

Will keep you posted on progress. I have barely driven it over last few years, Mrs car for city commute, had forgotten what a blast it is, properly fun little engine. Work done to oily bits were oil and filter change, thermostat replaced, can of cat clean run through. Ignition side hasn't been touched so plugs and sit filter next.
