I believe there’s a lot of constraints built into all of these so called contracts when they’re negotiated, it’s not always up to your company what they can let you do, believe it or not they too have there hands tied, think about it. The more you do to help yourself the more the loss to the contractor. Not like the old days.

The problem with common sense Tony is, it isn't that common.
Lost time is a hidden cost in most organisations. Very few organisations that use a time code recording have a down-time code for waiting time. That would cause questions by the fd on productivity. The consequence is you get what you measure.
Surely a mobile solution would make more sense to reduce carbon impact. Something companies could do is to put pressure on leasing companies to adopt greener policies in such circumstances. Insist on trucking vehicles in then expect to pay for the impact. Maybe carbon impact of the contract would raise the issue.
Also - Lease company tie-ins to firms like KwikFit look like a cartel to me. Restrictive practice for mutual commercial benefit.
