I had a think about how I could cut tapered pieces to make ramps on my table saw. This what I did.

Find a thin piece of wood with at least one straight “factory” edge. Lay the taper you wish to cut near to the unknown edge (none factory edge).

screw some blocks to the thin wood so the the edge to be cut is along the edge and clamp the the 2 pieces together.

Then turn it over and fit 2 screws into the piece to be cut to hold it against the guide blocks.Sink the screws below the surface.

Then, using the factory edge against the fence run it through the saw.

Support the side being cut off at the end of the cut, remove the 2 screws holding the other one to the jig and you have 2 tapered sides for a ramp

Yep, that works Tony, great job

Great bit of lateral thinking. Was that the 1st attempt?

In all honesty Dave, no it wasn't, but it was the 2nd. The 1st attempt was a good clean cut but I was about 3mm off centre so one was slightly higher than the other. I rectified the error and the next 2 cuts was all I needed. I trimmed them down to 18" long and then put a 45 deg chamfer on the front edge of the particle board. If the front edge of the board does start to break down after some use I think I'll cut the 1st 6" inches off and replace it with good quality Plywood. One more thing I might do is router some grips in the sides to aid lifting off the couplings.

Nice looking shop Tony. 3-4 years ago I cut off 1/2 my (BLOODY) L index finger while cutting a taper. I now have a SawStop. Like closing the barn door after the horse is out.

Thank you. Saw Stop is amazing technology, I'm not sure how it works though. Your injury could've been worse, glad it wasn't.

Just did a quick Google :-

Image result for sawstop how it works

SawStop Saws Detect Contact With Skin. The blade carries a small electrical signal, which the safety system continually monitors. When skin contacts the blade, the signal changes because the human body is conductive. The change to the signal activates the safety system.

Yeah, but I've seen them use a sausage to stop the blade!

I have also seen that, but the bloke was holding the sausage in his hand .... ;)
