WISHES VILLA

Great news Tony. Enjoy your break.

Best possible news Tony considering the catastrophic power of the storm. Looks like it's going to take quite some time to restore power to most areas though.

That is the thing that really puzzles me Ian, in a so called modern advanced country like the US why, Oh why, do they not put the electricity cables under ground? Most of the "outages" occur because trees are blown down taking cables with them. Only today in the county near to us a 57 year old man was electrocuted by a still live broken mains cable on the ground. That would not have happened if it had been buried.

Tony.

I don't understand how their power system allows cables to stay live like that. It's effectively a short to ground that should cut the supply. And it happens so regularly over there.
Burying cables costs far more but saves money and lives in the long run.

Great news Tony for you and Shirl,no more weather watching on the tv for a while I hope
Jimmy.

Excellent stuff mate. That's the news we wanted to here.

That's great news @t-tony :p
Must be terrible for all the people who's homes were destroyed :(

That's great news, bet that's a weight off your mind

Great news Tony... at least you were one of the lucky ones.

Regarding cables underground. You can run a short length of high voltage underground but over a longer run the cable starts to heat up. Ever heard that noise when you go under a pylon in the wet weather as the water hisses on contact between insulators. There is a cable near me that runs under southampton water and they had to put that in a tunnel and the main power cables were in an oil cooled conduit. I always remember that on the school trip wondering why. Then the guy explained how the cables got hot over a length regarding resistance.

I get that 're the power cables but we managed it here and when you see how there cables"hang" from rickety poles it's a bit scary.=))

Tony.

Cheers Pete:thumbsup: How did brother in law go with the place in Miami?

Tony.

Thanks Frankie. The track of Jose shows it doing a loop out in the Atlantic trying to make it's its mind up. Hope you only get the showers mate

Tony.

Very pleased to hear that Tony, you must be so relieved. Richard has a cousin who lives in South Carolina and they were ok but neighbours had trees blown down.

Great news Tony and HT can put his popcorn away now !

Well, this will teach me to take the mic out of @t-tony, storm tomorrow over here with 120kph winds, warnings of trees coming down because they are still in leaf and the ground is soaked and warnings to truck drivers about getting blown over.
Not to difficult over here, as the place is as flat as a pancake......
