Hi All,

My 2.8 doesn't have aircon.

and i'm thinking about removing the viscous fan and replacing with an aux fan from a A/C car.

most Z3's are pre wired for everything from the factory.

so my question:

if i were to get everything for the swap would i be able to bolt it up, connect the right connectors and relays and have an OEM pusher fan installed?

I think a forum member did this mod but was not happy with temperature when hill climbing or something like that, might have been @Nodzed

thanks for the heads up. the long term plan would to also twin this with an electric radiator fan (SPAL etc)

It seems logical that the 3.2’s run hitter given the state of tune they are in.

The 2.8 don’t seem to have any issue without the viscous. I’ve not tracked mine on a hot day for example but on traffic, out on runs etc had no issues for a couple of years now.

Re the wiring. As Z’s seem to have been wired for everything you’d think it was there but I guess the only way to check is compare vins on REALOM too see if you missing any bits?
I’ll message you my VIN so you can see what bits an aircon equipped car has extra and compare with yours.

Mine ran absolutely fine most of the time, sat in traffic forever in hot weather getting into Vanity, no issues then one day I gave the old a proper thrashing and she got warn, 2nd stage fan cut in, another time was a very long slow drive up a steep gorge in the Peaks and the same happened so I got nervous and put it back to standard. Never had an issue since, sooo maybe Mr BMW knows best??

Thanks Niall

Challenge I have is I don't have a aux fan so wondering if I can just retrofit all the bits and it will work from the factory wiring and relays
@mid life crisis was thinking of doing the same but has no AC fan, and I'm pretty sure he found all the wiring was in fact in place to do it.
