Wind Deflector?

My newly acquired 1999 Z3 came with a wind deflector ( just like this one ) fitted, or shall I say "sort of fitted"



Can anyone please explain to me how this actually attaches to the car through those two round fittings? these two holes kind of line up with the hood cover attachment points behind the seats but there is nothing to fasten them to the car with. I also opened the roof for the first time today and found that I have to move these two round mounts on the wind deflector right out of the way in order to attach the hood cover which defeats the object ????

any help would be much appreciated

They fit over the pins that hold the cover too they have to be replaced for longer ones that have room for both items to fix to the same point.:thumbsup:

I think I have the longer ones fitted, but I don't have the wind deflector, I'll check would you do a swap?
 
I believe someone posted a part number and source in a post over the past couple of years! Anyone remember this as I can't find the post but those items have a specific name which totally evades me. I had written it down but likely threw the paper away because I couldn't remember what it was and why I had written it down!! JIM
 
Thanks @GazHyde that stirred my grey matter and I remember changing it from Tenax to Texan Stud for future reference. Didn't work!! Which does one need for the deflector and tonneau combo? Any idea!! JIM
 
That leaves several options @HT! I'll need a couple if my beige tonneau should make it's way from Hounslow to here @BMBabe? No pressure, I know you're a busy girl watching @Mnbrennan work on the three cars!! lol JIM
 
I am afraid the long ones sold by woolies-trim are not correct! I removed one of mine to take a look, it is deffinately a woodscrew type thread
and they don't sell that one with a long thread.
 
That's interesting that it has a wood screw type thread! I'll have to pull out one tommorow and check to see for sure if I have the same! Could it be a self tapping screw thread as I believe it goes into metal?? If so you may be able to drill and retap the hole to fit one from woollies trim. JIM
