Will they fit ? Will they be comfy ? Will I be told off for suggesting them ?

In a recent thread the subject of the comfort factor of std Z3 seats was discussed. Now I am about to embark on a journey to change a less than pristine 2.2 non-sport into a Cobra looky-likey so am not concerned with keeping stuff OEM . That means I can play a bit and feedback to anyone interested.

So on fleaBay i saw some black full leather seats out of a F@@@ Streetka mk2. They looked ingood nick so now own them. £100 including shipping. They are heated (well they have connectors and buttons at least) so I will measure them up and see how they go !

Current findings is that the seats are
54cm wide (across the bottom of the seat including bolsters and mechanism)
25cm from floor to front of seat
27cm from floor to sides of bolster
23cm height from floor to back of the bottom of the seat (where one's coccyx would be)
80cm total height incl headrest.

The fitting bolts are 34cm apart down Door side.
The fitting bolts are three on the tunnel side which are (front to back) 40cm and 52cm in distance.
Bolts are 41cm across the floor of the car.

Anyone have the Z3 equivalents ? Please.

Here is a pic or two of said seats (without headrest in the last for those bad boys who want a sunny day with the wind in the back of their hair).
What I like about them is that their bolsters hold me better and they have tilt (rake) adjustment missing from the OEM models.

Anyway hope this suggestion doesn't offend :)

We get a couple of those in at work Dave and although I haven't driven one far by any means they appear to be very comfortable seats, a fact that grabs you as you sit in them. Hope you can get them to fit and work OK.

Tony thanks,
We will have to see. Got to get the things not only in the car but also figure out how the fixing bolts etc fit or need fabricating.
My daughter has the Mk1 Ford Ka with leather seats. They aren't bad but don't hug enough.

What still makes me laugh is when I took her to buy the car she had a choice of the Ka or Fiesta. The chap selling both said. "Go for the Ka. After all no-one is going to nick it". A great unique selling point I thought. It's not a great car but for someone just passed test it will do.

I doubt anyone has the dimensions to hand, won't take you long to take one of the seats out. Will give you a much better idea of how they actually sit in the car as well as the dimensions for the seat runners.

Could you have the Z3 seats customised and retrimmed instead to get the retro look and lose the BMW look?

You can fit heated seat pads to your Z3 seats for about £40 - I’ve used carbon pads from eBay which come with switches and work very well.
You can also tilt the seat using a spacer at the front mount points or if you retrim the foam in a way that tilts up at the legs to hold you back and into the seat better.

Ps getting rid of the carpet around the seat base area give you more room to work and fit a seat.

Thanks for the comments @Dino D . Your suggestions would certainly help with the comfort of the standard seats. I am happy to forgoe electric adjustment if they fit. Need to look ok though. Retrimming existing might be the answer although I am not sure at what cost.

I will see what lifting a bit of carpet shows.
