I am looking at buying some new 17 inch wheels for my wide body 2.8

Screenshot 2025-04-22 at 19.38.59.png

I just thought I would check that the outer rim poking out 11.7mm more than my stock style 35s is alright?

I don't quite understand why they poke out by quite a bit more when the offset is only 1 different? (ignore this, it was a stupid question)

Sorry for some probably stupid questions, I am very inexperienced when it comes to wheels

Thanks Chris

Ahh makes sense now, it's because of the wheels width, DUH!!

Sorry to bother you guys

Still it would be good to know if 11.7 mm more is ok, I am switching from 7J to 8J

Should be fine.
easy way to make sure is get a vertical piece of something (wood?) and hold it against the outside edge of the wheel arches, then measure the distance to the outside edge of the tyre on your existing. If it's more than 11mm it will be fine.

Your new tyres are 14mm closer to the suspension on the inside. May be worth measuring the existing there aswell.

I wouldn't expect any issues, though.

Good idea with the wood.

They are style 89s off an e36, so it’s not too different.

Thanks for your help

They will fit fine.

My setup is on the limit

My Orinoco had 16 same as you.

Then went to Style 18 staggered
So 7.5j front and wider 8.5j rear et41 all round
Running 225/45/17 front
245/40 / 17 rear

So basically your standard z3 staggered set up bar the M model.

Now i have same tyre sizes as above
Still on a style 18 but now running
8.5j et41 on front ( so the rear rim on front with front tyre size fitted)

And i am now running a 9j et22 rear rim
( from a 5 series) but thats pushing the limits to the edge.
Stephen.

Damn that fitment looks brilliant, such wide rear tyres must improve the handling some!

Good to hear the 8J's will be ok

Thanks for your help, Chris.
