It would look as though 8j et30 is too far out for m44. Great fit for a wide body I reckon, just got too skinny a bum. I’ll need to buy a 2.8 then...

It could be possible to use tyres with a bit of "stretch". This really isnt my style at all but the wheels are. 215mm is the recommended minimum for an 8j wheel. i reckon i could run 215 or 205 as a push to get the tread underneath the arches.

Been on https://tyrestretch.com/8.0-205-45-R17/

Having a look at fitments. 205/45 seems a popular stretch and isn't massive to the extent that ill be in the running for cover car on MaxPower magazine. Exploring the 205/50 options as there will be less arch gap loss and might look a bit more normal. Such a setup of 205/50/17 was described as "gay" on a stretch/stance website. Therefore im sure it will be a good fit.

Or convert your car to a wide body?

Tony.

You need tyres on them and drop the car to the ground. When I first not got my new alloys and put them on they stuck out a mile on the rear, I was worried I'd have to get them sent back but we dropped the car to the ground and they sat in the arches fine. This was before the car was lowered and once that was done they came in even more.

I can't remember how the fronts sat when jacked up but the rears were similer to yours from what I remember. Even if you can't fit tyres I would put some blocks down under the wheels and drop the car to the ground. They will come in, but you won't know how much until you drop it down.

My rears are 9J and 35 offet with 5mm spacer, effectively bringing the offset to 30 and they sit just inside but mine is a facelift. I don't know how narrow the rear prefacelift wings are, but if there's an inch or less between them and the facelift they may fit. Prefacelift widebody's are even wider than the facelift so you would have no trouble at all if you went down that route.

If you had gone for a set from a 3 series they would have had a higher offset, more likely in the 40's, but as they were from a 5 series the offset is always lower which makes them a squeeze at best and even tighter on the narrowbody :(

I think you are right. ET40 would have been snug and nice from the 3 series. hard to know without rubber and sitting on its 4 wheels.
