As it hasn't stopped raining in recent memory my passenger seat is now slowly covering itself in mould! Yippee...

Just need a couple of dry days and I can start sorting the damp out, may have to pop out and buy a tarpaulin and cover the car for now.

Well that's nice... I've attacked this with some proprietary mould killer from the cupboard, fingers crossed it doesn't damage the leather but at this point I have little choice. It's still raining so I can't tackle the drips from the a-pillar at the moment, but I need to do something about the damp before I start growing mushrooms! :wtf:

Factory fitted?!!!!!!!! lol

Think I might need to do same. My A-pillar definitely letting water in. Interior getting stripped out tomorrow once kids go to school. Replace bushes in the seats and see what water has gathered in her

I had placed a cover over my car the 1st day I got her, two weeks later mould started so whipped the cover off.

Yeah, that's the problem if you use a cover on a car with a damp interior. I just want to get back to the point where the water doesn't come in again, dry out the interior and get on with life again lol

You do not need to use any chemicals on it Gaz, just wipe it off with a cloth and hot soapy water.

That's my aim too

Taking her out for a spin tonight, football and back. Good 20 mile round trip through the twisty country roads. That'll focus me for tomorrow's tasks....all of them :D

I would be careful using anything in the leather and also letting it sit on it wet the redye i did to my seats was due to water staining the leather and after much research nothing can remove it, a redye was the only option i would cover it in a black bin liner and sit a towel on it at least it will save it from the sitting water.. hopefully it all cleans off and you find the problem soon !

@GazHyde there is a easy way to get the carpet dry.
Sharp carpet knife and careful neat incisions to get sections out (the sections where the footmats go and the ones under the seats are most prone to water logging, but I think you've seen this before..)

I did that on my passenger side a couple years back when we had bad rain and it would have been weeks before I could strip the interior. I was worried about any modules under there but luckily mine doesn't have any but I believe facelifts do. Ridiculous how much water came out of the sponge..

I've since done the same to drivers so now if I suspect the car is wet I just whip out the required section. As you know to get them to dry in the car will require a long time and plenty heat....This way I just pop it in the airing cupboard for a few days, no need for taking seats out etc.

A replacement full carpet can be had cheaply enough from our tame Z breaker so I balanced the cost of some old carpet vs being able to dry the interior in hurry and it's an easy decision in this weather..

Ps: the mould can be dealt with by regular wiping with any interior cleaner. It only needs sever chemicals if the mushrooms take root!

Don't forget that the spores of the mould can cause severe chest infections too. FACT.

Tony.
