Why is the Lake there?

Several people have asked how the lake in the field next door came about. Shirl came across there old pictures taken well before it was dug out and the land level built up around 1m and they show how the land flooded most winters.

And looking along the fence next to the drive. Our old white Lab, Sam used to swim in it at times when it got deep enough.

No sign of any lake/pond on OS maps covering 1892-1914 Tony.
Will PM you with the map & current satellite image. Won't put on here as it shows exactly where you live.
 
The Lake was excavated about 11-12 years ago.

Yeah, the biggest part of the field was unusable for crops or anything really so he dug a drainage pond (complete with an island in the middle). Soon after, applying for change of use from Agricultural to Recreational including permission to build an Agricultural Equipment storage shed . Not long after that an application for change of use of the shed and you can guess the rest no doubt. This bloody great things he's started building at the far end of the lake will be a failed business venture and soon after you see application for change of use in to a house. Job Done.
