The mk1 is even worse so I've read rot in the front chassis legs and early mk2s also had a habit of eating chassis legs. I wonder if they have sorted it on the latest one.

Just looking at the first pic @Sean d there looks to be some rust on the rail?

Not even investigated that, darn't look any further, but a bit more bad new for the guy as I also spotted that the rear spring is snapped at the top, we have not opened up the other side yet as don't want to commit him to any more then he already is.

No mate, everyone is the same, they have no anti-corrosion on them whatsoever
It amazes me that people go out buying cars when they don't know about cars.

Why don't they take someone with them? Would have saved them an expensive mistake for the cost of a few hours labour to someone.

Here's a few more common repairs that are needed.

This must be the best reason to get a Z3 or 4

View attachment 45441 View attachment 45442 View attachment 45443 This is a very typical example of a 2003 MX5, in fact its typical Mazda,
Its come in the shop for us to fabricate both inner and outer arches as well as sills and boot floor plus some structural frame is rotted through, the bill is more then the car is worth, a lot more !!
That is some serious rust. I remember going into a car showroom and looking at an MX5 around 5 years back - particularly around the sills - knowing they had been repaired - I asked the dealer - he side tracked the question. I like the new MX5 - although I would be concerned about the build quality.

No, nothing like a Z, these things were built for just going down the locale shops.
This. This made me choose the Z3 (twice) over a cheaper and possibly funnier (?) Mx5.

I drove on a friend's NC (mind you it was a 2006 project) for a few km and was already sick of it: all hard and edgy spots in the cabin, seat padding ridiculous, trasmission heating up like a nuclear reactor, bad wind management (as in "bad management of wind inside the cabin" nothing to do with other sorts of "bad winds" :D), got a headache in 2 hours.

With the Z3 (which project is 10 years older) you can comfortably drive a few hundreds km without needing an aspirine once arrived at destination.

Nope, not built for cruising like a Z.
After we got back from seeing you lot down south over here we dumped it back in Amsterdam, could not wait to see the back of it.
Went on further to home in my mates Mercedes Vito, heaven, proper seats.....:)

Never had anything to do with them Mike but when I met you in the morning you'd already had enough of it. Think our resident @t-tony had a couple of them in Eunos form.
