The wife and I were taken out last night by my son in law and family and he has a brand new BMW X5.
(I think you need a degree in engineering to be able to drive it!)
Anyway, when we got to the restaurant, he put it in automatic parking mode.....really clever, I had never seen this work first hand.....but if one of the adjacent cars had been hit, who is responsible???

It made me wonder if you could get off under a technicality as the parking was down to a computer!!!!! :)
If so, I want one in the Z3

Always the driver as the car needs to be pre-aligned, unless of course there was proven to be a technical malfunction. To tekky for me, took me 10 minutes to find the handbrake in a hire car recently :arghh:

A good question! Need to get the law experts involved! Would have to prove first if auto park had been selected and also faulty - if this can be done through the key? My guess is BMW could be held to account?

Spot on, I never bothered to find out what half the gizmos did on my C class Merc.
Not sure if it's an age thing bit just not interested in most of the kit in cars today, it's a bit like a PC/Laptop, we all have them but most only use a tiny % of the capability.

My Merc has Auto hand brake, i think it is great, much better than my Volvo before with manual hand brake.

My wife parked the Volvo at her sisters house went in for 3/4 of an hour, on returning to the car she was putting my nephew in to the back car started rolling down the hill.

They were all ok , bit shaken, but this was the result.:woot:

All came off our insurance

You know what really pished me off, no dip stick, had to go through the OBC to find out what the oil level was and I am just to old to trust that...

All these so called effort saving ideas have been created by the latest generation of computer nerds
And why?........because most of them are lazy little sods that would rather push a button than actually put any effort in to doing anything.

From an insurance perspective it's always going to be the car that's doing the parking. Well it's not going to be the stationary car's fault is it?

Whether BMW is then liable for a malfunction is a secondary issue and of no interest to the insurers. That would be up to you to spend £10k s proving it in court...

I'm not sure I agree with that. In my view things like that are created by BMW wanting to make more money from you. They might get used and interest lazy sods mind you...

Well, even with all the modern gizmos on cars these days, might as well keep a couple of wooden chocks in the boot.

Could not have put that better myself

Tony.

Most of them are the reason that there are so many people in supermarkets doing their shopping and delivering it for them....they are all at home playing computer games on their x boxes . The only time they go shopping is to queue at midnight the get the latest I-phone or the latest ‘ settee soldier game of doom’ or whatever they are called. :banghead:

Oooooor because the world moves on...

But I'm sure you're still washing clothes by hand and using your horse and cart to get around whilst the younguns use their fancy doodads and whojamaflips... Lazy buggers the lot of them / not in my day / etc etc

.they are all at home playing computer games on their x boxes

Haha, love it, turning into a right grumpy old git thread .... :D
One Christmas I was given the PC game 'Band Of Brothers', gave it about 15 mins then lobbed it in a draw where it still is to this day.

But I'm sure you're still washing clothes by hand

Beg to differ old chap, my dear old mum RIP, had a washing machine back in the late 50's before I was born.
That thing lasted for years, unlike the crap we buy these days.

I think I better stop before I get into the realms of Monty Python, living in a shoe box in the middle of the road.=))

I think I better stop

Haha, nah, threads like this are great .... :)
And here is another one :-

All the plastic crap bolted on under the engine that you have to remove before you can do any work on it.

My dear old Grandpa RIP, was a black cab mechanic down in the smoke.
He owned a Jaguar XK 140 and always had a drip try full of sawdust under the engine when he parked up at home in his garage.
As a young child, when I asked him why, he just shrugged and said "they all do it".

I'd ask my wife to get into the driver's seat for a moment and then take a picture of her with my cell phone............Frankie
