Hi all,, I was wondering which oil you put in your z3? What's the difference between 5w30 and 5w40 ? I've a 2.0 2000 model. Anyone used that Home Bargains oil, seems like a bargain ...

Home Bargains oil I think is only semi synthetic 10/40? You'll need fully synth, I use 5w40 Triple QX from Euro car parts they always have an offer on oil and filters I think it's 35/40% at the moment, I use a Mann oil filter comes with a sump plug washer and filter housing seal, I would also replace the two small O rings on the base of the filter housing, I do them every other year they are a dealer part.

I'd look at doing the gearbox and diff oil as well as its not on the service schedule BMW think it should last the life of the car!

I changed Engine oil, gearbox oil and diff oil in the last few month, got them delivered from Opie oil,top quality oils at reasonable prices, oil was Shell Helix Ultra 5w-40
The oil filter came from BMW and I think all washers came it , I had included the washers from Opie,so had spares
It has really improved the gear change,
I consider the term "sealed for life" means until the part packs up because the oil is worn out.

It's up to you but cheap oil usually means just that . Oil is made up of addetives which are expensive and the company put them in to bring it into specification so a cheap oil will in effect run out of specification much quicker than a premium oil , if that makes sense . It's the life blood of your z ,, I personally don't drink tesco own brand lager if you catch my drift
