Which Diff oil do I need?

Morning all.

Finally have my 2.8 Z3 to have the welding sorted around the diff hanger. While the diff is off o want to change the oil. Which oil do I need please? Thanks

Ring Opie Oils and they will advise, very helpful people. Personally I run Gulf Competition Racing gear oil 75w - 140 LS

Don't forget to make sure the filler/level plug comes out before you drain the oil. I've known people in the past who've dumped the oil and then couldn't get any back in. Bit of a pain, that.

Update. It's an open differential. So what would you recommend chaps?

For an open diff you need a synthetic 75w-90 meeting API GL5. BMW recommended and factory fill at the time was the Castrol Syntrax Longlife 75w-90 https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-737-ca...ynthetic-car-gearbox-oil-formerly-saf-xo.aspx

I thought all 2.8's had 25% LSD

4 Cylinder cars take 1.13 litres diff oil
6 Cylinder cars take 1.70 litres

Opie sell the oils in 1 litre bottles so for either car you are going to need 2 bottles.

Just so recommendations for both types of diff are in one thread. What is the recommendation for an LSD?

I only used one 1ltr bottle. Wouldn't take anymore. Even ran the car then checked the level and still no more.
Used 75w oil and filled it with a pipe and funnel through the spare wheel hanger hole in the boot floor. Worked a treat.

Ended up stripping all the spare wheel gear, it was a right State
All sand blasted and repainted so another job done.
