Wheres the DIY threads then??

Plastering a skill to do well so well done for giving it a bash . Suppose you never know if you can do something unless you have a go :thumbsup:
I had to do a bit of that not too long ago. I was getting a house ready for selling. The plaster had fallen away from the lathe in two closets so I decided to give it a go. I checked out several videos on U-tube first to try to insure I wouldn't make a total mess of it. It worked out better than I thought, probably because the work was hidden inside a closet and I didn't get too uptight about messing it up. It wasn't what a professional would do but after painting, not too bad. Just sold the house today. Had seriously thought of booking a quick flight over to the Netherlands to made the cruise. Probably would have had to ask @hard top if I could sleep on his sofa for a day. Held back my impulse to do this as I can't justify the expense for just a few days. I know I'll be thinking of everyone and wishing I was there...................Maybe in Sept. for Tony's............Frankie

You'd be very welcome as always Frankie if you can make it.:)

Tony.

So tight mate WD40 wont stop it squeaking, If you only knew how much I have spent on the house this year you'd understand ;) but to be honest I was convinced I could do it ..... pratt.
Tiz always the case. We only learn our limitations. I wouldn't do plastering and don't do water. Always end in tears and a wet floor :(

Not to bad at water, except once, on a Sunday....

In our old house at the time, we had just moved in, we had been assured that all lead piping had been replaced.
Decided to replace a manky old tap in the cellar, started getting wet and it was not coming from the tap.
What they had done was to 'bond?' the copper pipe into the old led pipe that ran under the granite floors above in the hall and I had managed to break it.
By the time I had removed a tree to get to the water meter that was outside in a pit, we had an indoor swimming pool.
Had to get the pros in the next day...

Once one thing happens something else unexpected crawls out the swamp and bites you compounding the original problem. Things just escalate until you have a domestic air-crash. I keep a plumber I've known for years on speed-dial. Always willing to turn out to fix problems - not worth the worry of 'What could go wrong?'. I work on the basis that anything and everything where water is concerned.
Having said that, I did put a new connector on the outside tap. Was right proud of that =))

Its all in the wrist
I was putting all kinds of connotations on this in my head until I realised you were talking about plastering =))

Gets even better, got the plumber round and he said best thing to do was run a new pipe from the water meter into the house above the floor and then connect up, getting rid of using the last led pipe in the house.
I said that I would dig the trench and call him when I had finished.
Next morning I go out bright and early to start the job (took day off work) first stab in the ground, I break my spade in half...:rage:
Go out and by a nice shiny sharp new one, second stab in the ground and I went through a gas pipe.
