What is that please Paul?

Tony.

Looks like the remnants of a piston to me Tony.

I think you're right Bryan, I hadn't thought of that. OUCH!!

Tony.

Thank you Paul, I was/am quite a fan of Mr. Rea's music.

Tony.

I’m another great fan of Chris Rea, a Boro lad who’s live concerts were something to behold. A 10 minute rendition of Road to Hell was something to really enjoy. I’ve been to about six of his concerts over the years and not been disappointed at any of them.
When I was at Longlands college in the Boro used to go to his dad’s cafe at lunchtime for a bite to eat.
I’ve got a signed copy of the Auberge picture by Alan Fearnley (another Boro lad who used to have a record shop and also was an renown motoring artist), the picture shows Chris driving his blue Caterham down tree lined road in France.

Remember driving home many a night during my `divorce year' and always having Road to Hell booming out at max volume - weird I know.

One of my favourite albums is “What ever happened to Benny Santini” .

It was his debut album in 1978 although I didn't buy it until into the mid 80s when i was working in Oman alongside a chap from the Boro who knew Chris and introduced me to his music and I've been a fan ever since. The other great track I love from Shamrock Diaries is Stainsby Girl, I have to crank that up when it comes on. :D

In December 2020, Rea guest starred on the Christmas edition of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, where he discussed his health issues over the years.
Tony, well worth looking up on catch up, it was repeated this Xmas whilst you were in the States.

Stainsby Girl, great track and takes me back. Will have to have a listen now that you have reminded me!

Absolutely agree, Stainsby Girls should be played LOUD.
I love the Tenor Sax in Benny Satini too.

Tony.

I think perhaps there was 1 track on that album I couldn't get to like but I cant recall just now which it was.
I did like "Gonna buy a hat".

Tony.

It is from the singer/songwriter Chris Rea’s Ferrari which he blew up while racing it at Oulton Park in 1991.

He wasn't driving home for christmas in that ferrari then?

Driving home for Christmas is still the only song worth listening to at Christmas IMO, as during my time in the military this song reminds me of driving home from Hohne,Munster and Catterick. Three Christmas's out of ten isn't a bad score Im sure as any ex-soldier will tell you. Great singer song writer, shame about his car which reminds me I better check the DISA pin on the Z.:bag:

The result of a dropped valve. Rebuilding the Ferrari motor that piston came out of wouldn't have been cheap......
I worked for an engine reconditioning company for a while. One day a customer came in with a VW engine in bits that had suffered a dropped valve. The guv'nor looked at it and said "This is a bit of a mess, were you caning it up the M2?"
The customer replied "No, I was about 2000 feet above Rochester airport in my home built light aircraft" He probably didn't need laxatives that day.....
