I am sure this has been discussed a thousand times before. But I am thinking of changing my wheels. I current have 17" x 7.5 with 225/45ZR17 tyres on the front and 17" x 8.5 with 245/40ZR17 on the rear. What straightforward options do I have when thinking about changing..I would like to fill out the rear arch as well?

That depends on whether you want to stay with 17" or go to 18". If you go to staggered 18" then the tyre size would be Front 225/40/18 and rears 255/35/18 and would fill the arches with the right offset
Have a look at www.rimstyle.com as they will give you the correct offset when you click on the wheels you like
 
18" start giving problems on the front. I have a slight tyre roll on mine to get them to fit with very little clearenace on the inside edge. I'd stick with 17" and put a set of 20mm spacers on the back. Lots of nice options out there. Billz is the wheel king! Ask him for piccys!
 
Ran my 3.0 Z3 with 18" and never had any issues at all. Not even tramlining
 
I've been running on 18's for the last 4 years. Just switched to a set of staggered 18" split rims from the Z4.

Not had issues with them on either of my Z3's. There is a lot of choice out there for tyres which fit, so take your time :)

All sets have been staggered set up and running conti contact tyres
 
Check out Beyern Wheels (by TSW) for BMW's so they come in correct fitment for Z3's (so no spigot rings needed).

These are my 18 inch Multis. 8,5 and 9,5j (refurbished in my own custom finish with diamond polished bare aluminium dishes and slightly darkened powder coated and painted spokes).

12mm spacer on rear, no front spacers.

Depending how low you go and what springs/camber you have you may get rubbing on the front when turning (on the plastic wheel arch liners). It's about the wheel offset and width rather than size (as overall diameter should roughly remain constant with original wheels).
 
This info is very helpful...many thanks ...will now look at options. I currently have some very clean BBS wheels on the Z3. May just consider 20mm spacers on the rear?

You have to type something in the post then click on "upload a file". Pick your photo and click on it from your pc or phone and once it's loaded click "full image" and bingo! :thumbsup:

I've got to say those wheels look superb,i like polished rims with the slightly darker spokes. The car has a good stance,nice job,its the look that i'd like to achieve for mine :thumbsup:
