Can anyone please tell me the largest ET for the front wheels without using spacers?

Thanks.
Steve.

I believe it depends on the width of wheel and the offset of the particular wheel - for example I run 8.5 width alloys with a 43 ET - the alloys sit just flush with the wheel arch - no rubbing.

I have a set of 8" wide zito wheels with a 38 ET which allows a 5 mm spacer on the fronts - they too sit fairly flush with the arches - no rubbing.

Sorry I cannot be more specific - some of the more knowledgeable on car mechanics will be along and probably be more specific.

Useful - thanks chaps. Is 8.5 usually the largest for fronts? There are an awful lot of BMW Styles out there and its not obvious which ones are a straight fit etc.

Yes, I believe 8.5 on the fronts is the maximum width to satisfy normal wheel arch constraints.

I run an 8.5 38 offset front and its flush it is a mine field and rim style can also add to the fitment as well.
The 8.5j is the bead seat of the tyre not the width of the wheel so depending if it has a lip on the rim edge etc determines its fit.
So this is a 8.5 38 offset

Quite a square liped rim.
Now this a 8.0 35 offset

Not alot in it to look at but the rim design shows an outwardly turning lip and it made it just about as wide as the 8.5 if not wider.
Use this to help you determine fit it helps to show you whats going to happen and where it will sit a stock front will be 7.5 with a 41 offset so you can work out the wheels new position.
Hope it helps.

After putting your suspension on mine I'm maxed out. It's very close so couldn't go any further.

Hi @Steve Medlock
BMW wheels from a 3 series usually fit straight on but those from a 5 series may not. The E39 5 series wheels have a larger centre bore and need a 'spigot ring ' to reduce this down to the usual centre bore size.

Qiuite a useful site to play around with wheel sizes.

I thought I was running 8J front and 8.5J Rear but turns out all my wheels are 8.5J and ET35 - there is a slight mark on one front liner but looks like it was done at full lock on knackered suspension! If I lower it on a Bilstein B12 kit will the wheels still fit (@Antm72 - they do have a small outward lip so might be slightly bigger than and 8.5J?)

Mines on the floor with an 8.5 38 offset and i dont have any clearance issues none of my liners are marked with turning.
Your only 3mm further out than me i would have thought no issues.
If it has caught have you had the tracking checked may be out i lowered mine and had it all re tracked.

Mines about 40mm lower on the front.
It may well be wheel design the 8.5j is bead seat to bead seat so if they are chunky it will becloser to an 9inch rim may be slightly bigger.

That's what I was thinking - having suspension and bushes completely redone and the tracking after but need to either get the wheels straightened or buy new. Prefer a deep dish although I do like your wheels - what are they?
