Hi,

Finally got around to buying a torque wrench for correct wheel refitting ;) . What torque setting should I dial in on this for wheel nuts?

Is it a standard setting for all wheels nuts, as I will be taking the MINI's wheels off soon too.

Thanks all

People dont realise the importance of a proper torqued nut
The amount of times i have seen cars and van wheel
nut fitted with just a air wrench, in fitting bays.
Last year we had a wheel come off the caravan,
"Not a good experience"
I would imagine that every nut on the car has a torque
setting,

Ask most people most a torque wrench is :-? #-o

There are only two nuts I use a torque wrench on - wheel nuts and cylinder head nuts. Most other nuts can be done by feel and common sense.

Torque wrenches should be calibrated. A new one should be OK, but older ones should be checked. I made a tool using some bar and a spring balance. It does the job :) .

Thanks Ardchyle :-bd

E30 / E31 / E32 / E34 / E36 / E38 / E39 / E46 / E52 / E60 / E61 / E63 / E64 / E85 / E86 = 120 ± 10 Nm

Looks to be a 'one setting suits all' value. Nice and simple for a change.

Now I have had chance to check the Owners Manual (2001 version for Z3 1.9i, 2.2i, and 3.0i) page 156 says
100 Nm or
74 ft.lbs

130Nm compared to 100Nm. Only 30% difference :-\ .

I've always used 100Nm - nothing happened so far. I'm going to start using 110Nm as it's within 10% of both.
