So I'm trying to decide between aftermarket 18" wheels and BMW 16" wheels.....

I think I actually like the 16" best although maybe I need spacers back on the rear to compensate for going from 255 to 225....

I like the 18's more Steve but not that particular design. It all comes down to what you like in the end mate. Those 16" wheels look a little lost I think, but that's just me.;)
These are what my car came on, 17"

and these are the 18" I have on now.

The Turbine style will be going back on for the winter, complete with some new winter rubber.

Tony.

Thanks Tony. I was going to see if I could feel any difference on the road, but unfortunately the wheel bolts i bought on Ebay are slightly too long and foul part of the disc guard on the front.

All down to personal choice but I like my 18" and @Grumpy's are pukka to. Same page as Tony on 16" but each to there own mate

I personally like 18's on the Z3, but it depends on the style. Thinner spokes tend to make the wheels less bulky, which is why the Style 108's looks so good on the 3. Of course if you want a smoother ride then the 16's would be better I suppose.

Have you got a local breaker near you Steve, you could get a set of standard bolts cheaply from them. Maybe Andy @spurs fan in a coupe can help you out?

Tony.

My neighbour is going to turn 6mm off the end for me. I didn't fancy doing that 8 times myself.

I must learn to use a lathe properly one of these days.

Love the colour of your Zed :p

I like the staggered set up you have on the car.The 16's are likely to feel different due to the side wall difference on the tyres.
Wheels are a very personal thing im on my 3 set in the year i've owned my 2.8 but have got it right now.

Your choice is the important one

Tonight I've be come the owner of a set of 108s which will need a referb.
Thanks to @NODZED
I bought my set with them needing a refurb too Steve, but the tyres they were on made them a great buy. Maybe this winter or maybe next they will get done.

Tony.

I've run 16's, 17's and 18's and can say:
16's look the worst, good fun for sliding about and comfy but dulls steering some what.
17's perfect balance between looks and handling - if you find them too grippy on the rear then run a square set up with 225 (so four fronts).
18's great on dry smooth roads but beaten by 17's everywhere else. Can feel too grippy if you go very wide but looks good of course!
