Whether driving or riding my bike here I keep thinking what do I miss about England ? Could it be the rain and cool weather? No of course not, it's the traffic and potholes.

Thank god too Tony, I get nothing done in that sort of heat. Today was nice and cool so went to help my son cut up some (loads) of paving slabs for his huge patio in back garden. Found two new diamond cutting discs in my shed and saved the day, was finished by lunch time. Did he pat me on the back?????? Of course not cos that’s what dads are for( @gookah ) right????.

I have never ever experienced my sons just coming to me for work that needed doing,
and not being anywhere in sight when I could have done with a hand.....
Must be a parallel universe that you are living in Roy......

Well ten years ago Victor I would have given anything to ride my bikes on a road like that. Sadly at 60 I was run off the road by a tipper truck trying to overtake and get back in on a bend, had to jump the verge which was about two ft high into hawthorn hedge. Rode home in tattered torn shorts and top with scratched arms and legs, gave it all up thinking how lucky I’d been, sold both bikes and all my wheel building tools.
Was club cyclist for 17yrs, so was hard decision but GB isn’t the best place to ride with its very unkempt B roads and so many inpatient drivers.
Still have the trainer in the loft but sold the rollers. Won’t be encouraging my grand children to cycle which is so sad.

Nice bikes @Rha, I had a nice Peugeot many years ago. (Reynolds 531 Professional tubing). Pity you gave up, I just avoid main roads like the plague. Fortunately in the UK I live in Derbyshire and I can easily get out on to quiet country lanes. I just have to keep a look out for certain folks tearing through the lanes here - @Mint,@billz etc. Oh, and avoid these,

Your right Roy, the overcrowded roads of the UK are no longer the place to ride a bicycle. Someone who used to work for me was still a competitive club time trial rider at 62. Fittest person I've ever known. He was out on an easy training ride one day and about 1/4 mile from home got knocked of his bike. Broken back, now in a wheelchair. Very sad.
I used to love a ride along the lanes near where I live, but the speed at which drivers roar along them now has put me off somewhat. Very early Sunday morning is the only time I'll go out now.

Must admit Victor while I was cycling I could eat what ever and as much as I liked but since giving it up I’ve gone from 32 to 34 And now getting close to 36 waist, saved all my favourite jeans for the last ten years determined to get back into the 32s before very long. First time in my life I’ve had to diet and finding it the hardest thing I’ve ever ever had to commit to. Take my hat off to all those people who have. Could go back on my trainer in the loft, still got all my vids of the tour rigged up to a tele up there for watching whilst spinning, ha ha ha what a thought, the neighbours used to complain if I trained after 9pm because of the rumbling noises reverberating through the terrace houses. Anyway that’s out the question now as the NHS have enough beds in their corridors without me adding to it. Respect for those cyclists who manage to keep going in this relentless,”in a hurry society” we now all live in. I do give them lots of room and only overtake when it’s safe to do so.

Out on the bike again this afternoon, but it was baking hot. Ah well, I thought jump in the pool when I get back. I did , only to find the water in the pool was 30 degs !! Still cooled off a bit.
