What're those reflector strips?

just a thought. Were they an option. might sound strange but on my Z , under the front wings there are loose cables not connected to anything in teh area where the side lights would be located. Either that or someone has changed my front end in the past. 😲

It seems that BMW made one loom with all the optional extra bits ready to be used, so there's quite often spare plugs hanging about.

Oh no. I like the cleaner look without the side lights. I was just curious why some had then and some hadn't.

I bought one of these side marker lights in August last year from BMW direct via eBay, turned out to be Park Lane BMW and the cost at the time was £26.20. Hope this helps.

Looking at that picture from @Ianmc the 'side' lights are actually quite close to the centre of the car. Not much use at indicating the width of the vehicle in the dark. But maybe they're just within the distance.

Maybe face lift were just a gnat's doodah and/or wide body versions exceed the limit calling for side lights on the bumper.

That is why the MOT test refers to front and rear sidelights as “Position” lights, because that is what they do, ie show the position of the vehicle.

My 98 1.9 has no lamps in the bumper front position lamps built into main beam.

My face-lift 1.9 has the lamps in the bumper but not in the headlight units
But after a bit of tweaking have went with the quad side light look which I like the way it looks.
