POLL What to do with your steering wheel

You can quite easily dye the leather using a sponge and dabbing it on, building up the layers. You don't need a spray gun to do it and it is pretty easy to do. Just mask the areas around where you are doing and dab the dye onto the leather in thin layers and build them up until you are satisfied. It would be easier as well if you went for a light coloured leather to start with so it doesn't take so many coats to dye.

I would go for that option as it keeps your zed nice and individual and looks great as it is at the moment.
 
If you speak to most of the dye companies they will get you a perfect match if you let them have your gaiter.
You could then ask Jack for a piece of leather the size/type needed and dye it and send it back.
Easier so you don't dye the stitching.
As said it can be sponged on to great effect.
I did a full interior with a sponge great stuff :thumbsup:
 
Also, those small touch up guns and air brush guns are fairly cheap investments if you foresee yourself having to dye or paint small items! HTH. JIM
 
(Maybe) Good news everyone!
I just reached out to Bespoke Leathering in Birmingham and they say they have the smooth Mexico green leather I am looking for...they even said it's the one they use when re-trimming the E36 M3 GT2 seats!

I am in touch with them and will see if I can purchase some for myself too.
 
It's done, so please with the outcome went for all black printed leather look, seems to go with the age of the car great workmanship,
drove up took about 2 hours 1/2 for Jack to swop the wheels over then 2 hours back so happy best mod ever:whistle:
the wheel ties in niecely with future mod's that I will be doing to the leather trim;)
Oh and as for Jack top bloke, great work and you wont be dissapointed:)

Hello good chaps, I need you to help me with the Furniture clinic, in order to understand what to order:

The job I need to do is:
1. re-dye the steering wheel to get back to a mat effect, crown is Black except for the lower portion which is mexico green.
2. re-dye (and possibly filler?) the driver's seat bolster (black): it's scuffed but there are no tears, only surface scratches/scuffs

Since I am not familiar with the procedure I'd like to order what I need at once, but I have no clue if I need just dye, or filler too, and what sorts of top coats (satin?) one should use.

If anybody can point me to the right kit content I'd immensely appreciate it.

3. Find another wheel, have it re-trimmed and put that on, save the original wheel (car will not look as nice)
4. Order a similar wheel to BMW (at an insane price, I reckon)
5. Hey, wait a minute! I know somebody who can re-trim it with the Mexico Green, it's [insert name here]
6. Restore it with a leather dye kit (on the German bay there's a seller that says he has Mexico Green...but the color match is still a big question mark and I've never done this before)
