What to do with this wire!

Last weekend I fitted new (to me) wheels that I got off of @Steve Medlock thanks Steve!

I am well aware that the bits behind the wheel are due a refresh, but I noticed that the mounting point of the cable to the left of the shock is corroded and none existent. Is there anything I can do to fasten it back to the shock absorber? I don’t want to restrict its movement.

I’m also experiencing when going round a left hand bend, what feels like the front right wheel being oval? It’s obviously not as I’ve now tried 2 different wheel setups. Could this be related to the loose wire getting caught or something?

Any help greatly appreciated as usual.

You could try cleaning it up with a brass wire wheel and then tacking the mount back onto the shock. A light tack weld that is. I suspect that one of the many bushes under there are causing the strange feeling. There are many so I would get a mechanic to pry around with a crow bar and see what movement there is. I'm no archaeologist but those struts look like late Iron Age to me Connor. ... Seriously though, I don't think that rusted pin will have anything to do with the handling. If you want, you could always put a cable tie around very loosely to stop it getting in the way of anything. Just turn the wheels lock to lock to make sure the brake pipe and wear indicator wire are not snagging etc.
Regarding the handling, I would check or have checked, all the front suspension and steering first of all to see if anything is obviously amiss.

By the looks of it, the car lived at the bottom of the Atlantic! I am planning on complete suspension + brakes but I am trying to have a go and do everything myself, finding the time, and funds to do it though is difficult!

Hi Connor, that little stud on the strut is where that cable clip needs to be secured to keep the cable from fouling on the wheel/tyre when steering so use a cable tie as Steve said but try to locate the clip in the correct position on the strut.
Regarding the steering issue I would think it's likely a very badly worn ball joint but again have it checked out by a garage when you can.

Of course a cable tie! I’ll give that a go in the morning.
To be honest, there’s a lot of corrosion behind the wheel, and I think ther entire system needs sorting, but I’ve had the car a couple of months now and only done about 30 miles in it!

Now I recognise that car! It was used by SpongeBob SquarePants in season 2 series 4 to drag race the squid. It was a close race but the Z3 won. Congrats.

UPDATE...

Been out for a spirited drive, and my brakes are not giving me enough. I’m pretty sure that the corrosion on the brakes could be causing some of my issues.

The engine is absolutely perfect though. I’m unsure whether to let this one go and look for a better example, or replace the suspension, brakes and do the body work.

Actually despite the obvious rust, the front disc and caliper in the photo don't look too bad. The caliper is better than many that I've seen and the disc has the original braking area. Cant see what the pads are like obviously or whether the slider pins and caliper piston are free but its only two bolts/pins to undo to check their operation.
