What the heck?!?

Back pre-Lockdown - oh, those heady days of liberty - my Z was in for it’s MOT which resulted in it needing a new suspension arm (blast ECP!) and being a curious individual, I was under my car as it was in with the indie mechanic. To my horror, I saw the front jacking points’ area either side of the front looking rather ropey (rusty). Can anyone tell me what these areas are called, please? The sills are new and I had what I believed to be the inner sills treated and painted and the full monty when I had my car’s bodywork done.

I know some of the ZedShed crew may have seen these areas over at @t-tony ’s and I’d welcome your thoughts, please.

Right first time, jacking points around the inner sills. Possibly looks worse than it actually is. Flaking underseal on top of crusty metal looks horrific but can clean up surprisingly well. Particularly those bits of the chassis as its thick metal there.

When the sills were treated, if they didn’t remove existing rust and just painted over it there’s a risk it reappears. Best way is to take back to clean metal but individual appetite for doing that varies.

Either way, the sills prob need to come off again to sort

I wonder if they meant they painted the insides of the new outer sills. Because the inner chassis sills around the jacking points look to me like they’ve never been touched.

Those inner sills were definitely not treated with anything Dawn when the new sills were fitted. It could not have got that crusty again in 2 years?
I hate to say it but, the people who did your painting etc. did you no favours when you consider the state of the door trims and seals, the bonnet catch adjustment, the 3rd brake light leaking, the boot catch rod coming adrift etc.
