I thought you were going to put a permanent hardtop on the new one Jim, you could buy that. I got an air freshener in Florida but only "found" it today so it went in. It plugs into the cig lighter socket and lights up, with a replaceable capsule of liquid inside.

Tony.
Very posh Tony!

Well, I've bought the top, just hope the colour's good, advertised as tan but package says buckskin but for just over £100 it's only temporary as my top is missing a rear window due to rotten stitching. Will go green as soon as I can collect tithe $$$. Now I have to track down @FRANKIE video and plug my ears!! lol JIM

This type of thread seems very popular on other car forums, I thought I would start it on here!

It can be anything related to the zed including mot's, car parts, bling etc.
It suddenly hit me when I read this now (What did you buy your zed this week?) that I few months ago I could actually say that I bought my Zed another Zed. (sounds funny).

Perhaps i should clear a few things up here. When I put on my top, I took careful notes on just how my old top was attached. I went on to utube and looked at other videos on how it was done. When I was finished, the two ends near the window didn't seem to come up close to the window leaving a small gap. I couldn't understand this as I followed all the directions. properly and had observed how the current top was installed. Since I felt something was wrong, I went to a professional installer and showed him the car. He told me that for what I had seen of the old top and how I followed the directions, I had done a great job. Unfortunately, It wasn't good enough. He told me he had done quite a few of these. He said its MUCH EASIER when you remove the frame from the car, place it on a table and attach the top.. He said you must start by attaching the ends where they meet the window to assure a tight fit at that junction. I told him that I had started at the rear middle and really stretched the top along the bow. It couldn't be stretched any more. He said that you MUST start at the ends FIRST and then work the top over the bow as you go the center. He said its much, much easier removing the frame. He said this really doesn't take much time to do and its so much easier to work with on a table. I'm a big guy and I busted my ass trying to work with it in the car. I had initially started at the ends as he said was unable to get the top on to the rest of the bow as i worked towards the rear center. Having it out of the car must allow you to do this. Also, he told me that there were several parts installed improperly and this was due to the fact that what I observed on the old top must have been done improperly. I took all of this with a grain of salt and turned the car over to him. It cost me $350.00. HOWEVER, when it was done, I could see all the mistakes I had made. Almost all of them were due to how the last top was installed and what they had done on the video. Everything is now sealed tightly and looks perfect. He told me not to feel bad as for following the examples that I had, he couldn't believe it looked as good as it did. I still feel kind of stupid about it, but I couldn't sell it with the top not being perfectly in order. I'd just feel like I was trying to get over on somebody and I wouldn't want it done to me. Frankie with a great looking top.

I'm going to try this myself @FRANKIE even though my friend is an upholsterer and makes convertible tops. I like a challenge and as I have a dead 61 Pontiac convertible and a choice of two colour tops for it this will be a great primer for me to start with. I always have the option of picking my buddies brain which I'll likely need to do to get it right! Never too old to learn something new and will watch your videos as you put in some good tips even if it didn't work out 100% and I applaude you for your efforts and think if you had someone to coach you it would have turned out perfect!!
