For my old Merc I use the iCarsoft device. I just like having it in a self contained device rather than software in a laptop.

I'm looking for similar for my 1999 z3 which has the round connector under the bonnet (hood)

Anyone recommend a good code reader device that can diagnose and clear most faults such as ABS.

Would be good if there was, for example, a wheel speed sensor fault that it would say which wheel etc etc.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

The foxwell 530 is a good tool. You will need an adapter cable from the under bonnet port to the OBD2 connector.

Tony.

Yesterday it is Ian. The under dash OBD2 ports on later cars wil only "talk" to the engine and auto gearbox ecu's.

Tony.

What @t-tony says regarding where to plug in, I use a Creator 310+ on my Z3 and Z4 really good bit of kit for circa £50 so much so its the first reader I go to now rather than break the Laptop out with INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 which I also use.

Hey Colb. If I had, for example, a wheel speed sensor fault Would that reader tell me which wheel?

What about something like airbag reset?

Yes the Creator 310+ will do it all, will show any codes that are set and clear them, it will allow you to see live data from the wheel speed sensors as well and clear airbag codes. Cleared an airbag code I had that INPA and BMW Scanner 1.4 couldn't clear.

I ordered the 310+ today. Amazon prime so free delivery tomorrow. (+ the 20 pin adapter (thanks Tony))

Z3 has intermittent abs/asc lights. Wondering if I can track the cause.

I had the exact same error on my 18yo merc ML. Reader said back right sensor. Changed it. Made no difference. Traced the wire looking for a kink and it turned out to be the plug on the abs pump.

So I know these readers can't work miracles but it's a good starting point.

Well. My code reader 'should' have been delivered today.

Amazon tracking said driver was 2 stops away. Now he hasn't moved in 2 hours.

I reckon he's run out of fuel and I won't be getting my reader.

If he has run out of fuel then I hope he gets home tonight.
