I’ve brought a foxwell NT301 code reader as my engine management light is on.
but it doesn’t seem to want to connect to the car to diagnose an issues

Carl

Where are you connecting it Carl, and did you load the BMW software?

Tony.

My 2000 Z3 had an OBD2 connector under the dash which read engine and gearbox faults. When I bought my Foxwell NT 530 I also got the BMW software. I’ll add a picture of the screen in a minute.

So, I go right onto BMW, it then asks you to select from BMW,Mini or Rolls Royce.

Tony I think I’ll go on the website and see if there is software to download mine isn’t showing bmw it has all the other icons

As others have said you will also have to buy an obd2 to bmw 20 pin adapter like this

As Tony has said obd2 under steering wheel only gives limited access you need the 20 pin to get full diagnostic access
Adapter readily available on Ebay etc.

Stephen.

If you have the time Carl you're welcome to come and try mine to see if it will connect. I have the adaptor cable too by the way.

Tony.
