what a numpty

I've been getting an advisory for the plate on the LR for a few years where I've had the MOTs done - the numbers/charcaters are a little faded but readable. This year, it was done somewhere else and no advisory.
I thought it was a legal requirement to put the name and postcode of where the plates were made. That and making it the buyers responsibility to understand the legal requirements as far as spacing are concerned seems a little weak. Also thought they needed to see your V5 document too.
When this "new" legislation came in we had to see the V5, formal ID and a utility bill and keep a written log of this too. Don't think it happens anymore.

Tony.

Having seen the pictures, it's not as bad as I was expecting.

In the same club @littlefeller , checking the Galaxy battery this morning and the reading said 0.00 :wideyed: much head scratching later before I realised I'd left the protective caps on the pointy things :arghh:

All is well but it's on charge as it's life is stop/start on the school run.

Nice one Andy.=))

well that was a revaluation:wideyed: just had a quick drive around morrisons car park, spotted 6 YES 6 illegal plates with no makers marks, and 1 (which makes 7) which was legal in the fact it was made correctly but the owner has drilled and screwed it on choosing a spot just inside the letter C and turned it into an E deliberately.

on a plus side, while cleaning the zed this morning in ready ness for the dodgy plates i did notice that the teeth on the rear screen has popped out along the bottom of the window (about 3 inches worth) dont really like the smoked black one anyway so im hoping oldcarman still has his unused one going for grabs.

just realized im an even bigger numpty that i originally thought, what i should have done was a spot the difference on my own car and see how many actually noticed.

It does at Halfords as I had to show my V5 and a utility bill

I believe you're over concerned. Unless you hadn't pointed out the spacing, I wouldn't have noticed it. My opinion really doesn't count though, since I'm not the one who will be looking at it when you go for your MOT. Still don't think there's any problem because of the downward slant of the seven that seems to make it a natural space with the next letter. Frankie

Unless they are "show plates" not intended for road use. No law against making something that looks like a numberplate.

@littlefeller just remember if you do get stopped by plod, plead ignorant and say they were on it when you bought it and its been through an MOT.

Don't say, I know officer, but i'm too tight and lazy to sort them!

yes the tight bit is correct, it was my tightness that has caused all this in the first place=)) i never learn, it always ends up costing me more in the long run:whistle:

you will probably never get stopped with them, and the age of the car means you could have plates made before the postcode rules came in. Your old plates probably didn't have postcodes.

One thing is for sure, i bet a speed camera can still read then!
