Went looking for a first car

Maybe it's time to give Jonathan the Zed and you can take the red beast...
The insurance will balance in a good direction.
I'm let him work though all the numbers and 25 letters first :ymdevil:

It was still showing a tax disc - from 2008!
Don't think its had much spent on it at all.
unfortunately if you can afford a car like this you wont appreciate it as you can just go and buy another.
Buying secondhand cars is great, though it will be a worrying time for you if its his first car, the waiting for him to pull up on the drive at night is the worse, it doesnt last though (or does it, you never really stop worrying about the kids really):)

simply because if you have the spare money to buy a realy expensive car you wont appreciate it as much as someone who couldnt afford one, a bit like winning the lottery, would be great but then would you actually appreciate anything you buy?.

or put it another way, would they love it as much as say someone who spends a shed load of time and effort salvaging a wreck, if you could afford the Ferrari then you wouldn't bother with the wreck, some where in there something is lost.

Appreciate what you're trying to say. If you have to work hard to get/create something then you're going to appreciate it all the more.

I think most of us actually wouldn't be able to enjoy driving a Ferrari more than a couple of times anyhow - The thought of owning it rather than driving it is what appeals. If you can easily afford to drive it as your daily driver then you've got enough money to do anything and buy anything you want. Doesn't matter what it is it then becomes a status symbol not a joy to have, own and use. Instead buy a Range Rover and a Z3!

Some people who can buy a Ferrari have worked hard to afford it.

Surely you're not implying anyone who owns an expensive car hasn't worked hard to achieve it?

Sorry, I'm getting a bit confused with what's being said here.

Insurance worse than ever for young drivers . Not that it was ever that good. I passed my test at 18 in 1988 bought a mk1 fiesta 950cc ghia for £475 and insurance was £925 3rd party fire and theft. So nothing really changed :(
Ha! When I come to this country having 15 years on my licence and about 800000km behind I've purchased a cheap daily runner, Vauxhall Astra for £1500 and insurance cost me £3000 at first year. Thanks to fellow Latvians who provided thousands of fake Latvian NCDs to UK insurers... Bloody immigrants :))))

Now it is normalised, paying around 400PA for daily runner and about 800PA for Z4 (which is daily runner too!). Intrestingly, my best half passed exam here in UK, and her insurance for rouhtly same daily runner was shy of a grand at a day exam passed!

I think it is common misconception. That may work for "old money", like all those millionaires kids but big proportion of supercar drivers actually make their money themselves, and therefore do respect the money. There is very few people in this world who can spent quarter of a million for Ferrari, smash it next day and get new one. Most of modern wealthy people worked hard to get their cash...

It doesn't matter too much what new drivers actually drive in terms of age of car of the same power, they get charged for pretty much the same ludicrously high insurance. It's simply their lack of experience. It will be more or less the same for a new car and an identical 10 year old car.
This is what I don't get.
My daily runner worth only 60% of my Z4, half as quick and far safer (being a4x4) costs me double my Z4. I don't have any mileage limit on either. Both are insured with the same company. Have driven over 1m miles and never had an accident that was my fault. At best given my 38 year driving record is that my risk is the same in both cars. Seemingly not the case.
