When I check over the usuals for mot I always think "why don't my wipers work on slow", all I get is two intermittent speeds but at least 2nd speed worked - good enough. Must be a dodgy switch.
Bumbling my way along today in the rain 1st speed wipe worked fine, "brill I thought". Got to the lights and they packed in, going back to working only on intermittent - bu**er! Set off on green and started working again! Next junction same again. Being a bit dim it was a few junctions before I twigged that must be what they're designed to do - cool - really impressed :rolleyes: I must read the drivers handbook more :bookworm:
Next on the list is to explore the speedo diagnostic mode thingy!!

If I remember correctly they work on engine speed.

Was just thinking the same tonight on the way back from hospital i was on intermittant but at motorway speed they wiped at speed. You could noticeably see the speed change .
Not a car that sees wet normal so discovered also :thumbsup:
 
Yes @Synclare vacuum wipers were a crap shoot at best! Was a good thing cars were actually build with heavier metal or there would have been many more writeoffs due to collisions caused by vacuum wipers stopping suddenly! JIM
 
Here's what it says in the Bentley manual - Stage I and Stage II wiping speeds are road speed dependent. Stage I switches to intermittent when the vehicle is stopped and Stage II switches to Stage I when stopped.
 
Hehe, the 1999 BMW manual says - 1 Intermittent wipe, varies with road speed. 2 Normal wipe, reverts to intermittent when stationary. 3 Fast wipe, stays on fast even when stationary.

Days when the sun don't shine all the time?;) Mind you, good glass cleaner and enough speed you don't really need 'em anyway.:thumbsup:

Don't you just love it? I had a similar experience the first time I came over there and rented a car. I would come to a stop and the engine would stall out. The first time I thought it was just a quirk, but then, EVERY time I stopped. I thought WTF, is this how they care for their rental cars? I then saw the switch that disabled the engine cut-off that was meant to save fuel when you were stopped. Who the hell thinks of these things. They just wanted to see if I could take a joke......................Frankie
