On a more serious note. How is the speed and stability now? From the server side things are looking much better, v2.0 is much more optimised, so far it's behaving much nicer than the previous version.

Great upgrade guys, thank you.
Just one small thing, is it possible to reduce the intensity of the white background, or change to a darker colour? It's almost dazzling on my PC; if its user adjustable, apologies and would be grateful for s steer.

I haven't seen any issues from my usage, and I've probably been on here more than usual keeping an eye out.

Have you tried either of the custom themes from the Style Chooser at the bottom left of the forum? Light Zorg has less white than the out-the-box theme, and there is a full dark theme - Dark Zorg if you'd prefer?

Hopefully you'll never bother me again about images not uploading
Hopefully not, but it was a site/account issue as the problem was across different devices and broadbands, I haven't tried to upload yet, if I have any problems I will come straight to you to moan get it fixed :whistle: 😁

I’d prefer no ‘negative’ option all round, but it’s just a simple easy to change text label on the button. Maybe there’s a let’s provocative word we can use instead. Open to suggestions.
Questionable?

Actually we may have a better way around the whole dislike/disagree malarkey. In the next (minor) release of the forum software they are introducing Questions.

Posting a question gives the opportunity for the poster to mark one of the replies as the solution. The solution post is then displayed directly under the question.

The person who answered the question gets a warm fuzzy feeling by having the number of solutions added to their profile (bit of competition for you lot).
1597343778489.png

Now how does that help us? Well, there is the ability to up-vote and down-vote solutions. So, if you up-vote (agree) with a post it can be displayed higher up the thread. Direct opposite for down-votes (disagree) being pushed down the thread.

This concept surfaces the best responses towards the top of the thread through the filter options shown (Sort by date or Sort by votes). This gets over the frustration of dropping in to a thread and having to read through people rambling off topic as the good stuff can be filtered to the top. It means I can potentially remove the "dis" reactions! I'm sure some may still get upset over having their posts down voted but that's life...

One of the lead developers explains it perfectly in the first 5 minutes of this video...

One thing I have noticed is that on your avatar there’s no longer your location or model of Z displayed, which has already highlighted the issue in 2 threads today. Is it something which could be put back please?
iknow not everyone posted their “location” at first but many did.
Members Map. Any chance that could come back or did it outgrow itself?

Thank you either way Gaz and James. Im finding the new Zorg great.

Tony.

I can add that to my list, it’s the default theme that doesn’t show them. At some stage I plan to change the default to be Zorg Light anyway which does display them.

EDIT: Postbit now displays location and Zed model on all themes.

The site is running from multiple servers now which did cause issues with the image uploads previously so I am hoping that the new version handles all that correctly now :) There may be the situation where you upload a picture and then someone else from a different part of the world lands on another server before the files sync over to that server but I don't anticipate that being an issue.

Hey everyone! Now everything has settled down since the big upgrade I've started to make a few tweaks in the background.

This evening I've enabled "Latests Content Live Updates". It doesn't do a huge amount other than automagically checking for any alerts or new messages every 5 seconds whilst the tab is active.

"Latest Activity" also now refreshes every 5 seconds, so leave that open and it will save your F5 finger from getting a repetitive strain injury!

Enjoy.

Note: Before you ask if "New Posts" will auto refresh, it won't - just Latest Activity.

How about push notifications? 👀

From the instructions - "If enabled, a user will be able to subscribe to receive their alerts via devices which are compatible with the Push API. Users will only be able to enable push notifications if they are using a compatible device. This is supported by most major browsers except Safari on macOS and any browser on iOS."

So when you get a notification you'll see a big alert pushed to you by the browser. This is a Windows 10 push notification as an example.

Another in the background tweak thanks to the recent donations, I've signed us up with Akismet. Akismet costs £44 per year so I've invested in a 1 year subscription and will see what effect it has.

What is Akismet I hear you ask, well if you visit their website it says "We all hate spam. It’s annoying. It hurts your site’s credibility. Filtering it manually is confusing and time-consuming. Time spent dealing with spam is time stolen from the business of your site."

Essentially it's a boost to our anti-SPAM capabilities. There isn't a lot of SPAM on here these days due to the way things are setup here anyway, but I'm always looking for ways to weed out the sneaky stuff. We already filter all new registrations through the 'Stop Forum Spam' service, then through DNSBL (SPAM database and blacklist service) and then Project Honey Pot HTTP blacklists.

That pretty much kills all the automated SPAM bots, yet there are persistent humans out there who take the effort to sign up and post normally while subtly posting links to all sorts of shizzle. The contact form also gets hit a fair bit as well, so my Zorg email account gets all manner of intriguing offers.

So that's two contact form spams going nowhere today, checking the detail both full of utter tosh :spam:
