I'm planning on doing a 'front of engine' service on my 2.8

I seem to remember reading some time ago that the original Z water pump had a plastic / rubber impellor and that this could be upgraded to a pump with a metal impellor?

Do the latest OEM versions have a metal one or is there another independent make I should be going for?

Many thanks in advance

Alan

I replaced my water pump last summer with a HEPU branded pump, as after some research I believe they use metal impellers.

I have replaced a few of these now and found the pattern parts all come with a metal impeller, Most places like GSF and euro will happily show you the part before you buy.

My 2p's worth. Bought a Meyle brand water pump via eBay, metal impeller. 6 months later no issues.

Cheers. Mark

.......... Bought a Meyle brand water pump via eBay, metal impeller. 6 months later no issues........

I also fitted the Meyle from Motormec eBay store - now done 12000 miles. Removed pump was 97 build (original as far as I know) and did actually have a metal impeller. Research indicates early pumps had plastic impellers but there were also bearing problems.

I bought my Meyle water pump from Motormec. When I spoke to them to check it was a metal impeller they confirmed it was but also said that Meyle had recently changed to plastic. Interestingly on the Meyle site (checked tonight) the water pump shown has a metal impeller! It come with a 100K mile guarantee so seems a good choice to me.

My car was made in Feb 1999 and the original water pump had a plastic impeller.

Changed my pump a while back, can't remember the make but it came from GSF, metal impeller on both the original and the new one. Changed the belt tensioner as well, much quieter at the front end now, tensioner bearings making a hell of a noise.
