Hope it's not got inside.
When I bought Lynne's zed the rear window zip stitching was split both sides .
Carpet felt dry on top when I took the interior out you would not believe the amount of water that was in it (after carpet out about 1 litre of water in the floorpan) Took good part of a month to get the carpet properly dried ( was late autumn so no warm weather for drying) .
If you lift a seat up to full height get your hand down at rear of centre console find split in carpet shove hand down and to rear a bit should be able to feel if soaking.
Hope it's just the boot.
Thanks for this tip mate. I've been meaning to check my carpets for ages and this way saves having to take the seats out to do it:thumbsup:

And agree with others on here to strip the interior to dry out properly if you've found evidence of water. On facelift cars I believe there's a yaw sensor for the DSC located under the passenger seat that costs big dollars to fix if it becomes sufficiently waterlogged. Not sure what's there in pre-facelift cars but I'd imagine it's something equally pricey to sort out if you get it wet enough

If you haven’t changed your brake light seal I would do that first£2.50p some last years some 12 months ..if your guessing where the leak is guess the cheapest option first ;) .it looks innocent but it’s a sneaky leaker

Have found the leak, it's the seal between the bottom of the roof and the car, poor water down the window see it coming into the boot.

Just a thought but sometimes the drain hole by the door gets blocked there’s a little squareish type tray by each what would be door pillars that is difficult to see but can sometimes back the water up,just another cheap idea lol

Hi,
I have the same problem with a 2001 3.0. Lots of water in the battery well (also had the embarrassing alarm going off while driving issue due to submerged tilt switch). Water appears to be trickling down the rear bulkhead from the roof seal. Did you find a fix for this?
Grateful for any help!
Thanks

Only permanent fix is to pull the roof mounting at the bulkhead up and re-bond. There are 2 seals as it goes chassis bulkhead>sealing strip>roof. Both > are butyl seals.

Thanks for the reply.
By "butyl seals" do you mean a mastic compound?

I use butyl on a roll as it's what BMW used in the factory. Lots of it on ebay. But I know some people use a mastic type compound from an applicator gun. Not sure exactly what type of mastic they use and if it's just liquified butyl.

Absolutely right! The first time I noticed something was wrong was when the offside front brakes were applied at 70mph and I had not done it! I sourced a second hand one off eBay for about £90 and got my local garage to fit it. BMW quoted something something mad like £800.
