If only I could find the nutter that did this reinforced exhaust rubber

I got shamed into removing it

Another common one used at Halfords (ask me how I know?) is to stuff tyre valves into the rubber's voids to stiffen them. Effective, but bloody crude.

Yep, that was a mess Phil, wasn't it?

Tony.

You know, it was probably like that for years, done as an emergency repair.....that just stayed in place.
I'll never forget taking off the ducts, only to find that the top duct was the wrong part, but we had already cut the old one in order to remove it. My heart stopped....
But, Tony to the rescue with superglue, cable ties and confidence!

Too right, we used to cut them out of a Duckhams 20/50 gallon oil can. After snaffleing the key ring obviously .....

Years ago there was a bloke at work who drove a very rusty Hillman Avenger. He repaired the tops of the front wings with patches cut from Duckhams oil cans and pop riveted on. Didn't bother to paint the 'repair'. It was like it as long as he had the car.

A month after I got my Z it started running poorly. I found they had made half the repair as yours. They had only used the electrical tape. I put silicone on it while I waited for the new tube to arrive. How long it was taped up I can only guess.

That reminds me, I have electrical tape on a split on the idle control pipe. It’s annoying as it’s white tape, not black....

Must get some quality black tape in stock - appear to have run out (I’m very particular about a bodge job - if you going to bodge it then do with quality tape / cable ties of the correct colour and spec, no £1 shop nonsense!)

Everyone knows that black tape is much stronger than white tape. A rookie mistake tbh!:thumbsup:
