Definitely sounds like master cylinder, a boss I had many years ago had the same problem on his Ford Crappi, go down a long hill with his foot just resting on the brake and by the time he got to the bottom the pedal was on the floor. I suggested not going downhill with his foot resting on the pedal but that didn't go down too well.
Seals were leaking just a bit, didn't happen in normal use, but I guess he wasn't normal.

Yeah I didn't actually confirm the diagnosis, they replaced the brake master cylinder and all is well.
Any actual diagnosis, or are you sworn to secrecy? Because nothing goes wrong with Audis. Oh no.
