This is near Titusville on the East Coast. We didn't get there early enough but the guide gave us the full tour even though he was then late leaving work.
Inside the door was this,

This plane had just had the 2nd. run up of her new radial (18 cylinder) engine. It has had a total strip down rebuild to get it air worthy again.

What a coincidence seeing "Maverick" on this plane as the film "Top Gun" was on TV tonight.

Also this exact Huey was one of the ones used to evacuate from the US Embassy roof in Hanoy in Vietnam all those years ago. When they had insufficient fuel for another trip they were simply shoved off the side of the aircraft carrier, but this one was "lucky". It snagged somehow and was pulled back on board and made it back to the USA. Since then 3 men who flew this chopper have visited this site and when it is air worthy they have been invited back to fly in it.

ps. The plane in picture 6 flew three missions on "D Day". 2 carrying paratroopers and one towing a glider. It went on to be the official transport of the Norwegian Royal Family.

Great pictures from what must have been a good day out. The second picture is indeed a Canberra - long way from home....

He said it was the Canberra Mike. It came from Patrick Air Force Base and had to stripped of its wings for delivery up the US1 . As the under carriage is mounted on the wings they then had to make a cradle yo support the fuselage. They hope to get it back in the air at some point.

Be great if they do get it back in the air, I believe the Americans stil have some B57's flying but the later ones are far removed from the originals.
 
There was a cockpit section of a B52 which was the last exhibit we saw but it was outside and the temperature in it was very high so we didnt stay very long and didnt climb up to the flight deck.

I didn't know there was a licence built American Canberra. I know the the UK was at the forefront of jet technology in the early 50s, but I didn't know we exported it. Well, at least until the government of the time licensed the Rolls Royce Nene to the USSR and indirectly became responsible for the Mig15.....
