Problem is if you have 700,000 tonnes of waste 'rubber' being produced each year just in the UK, there is only so much you can use for playgrounds and horses, surely?
And when that is 'used' what happens to it? Buried or burned is my guess.

Presumably these tyre recyclers sell the products they make at a profit, so why are we paying a 'disposal' fee anyway? 50 million tyres (according to the article) times £3 each? Where is that £150,000,000 going?

On the news this morning, about 50% of UK used tyres are being sent to illegal facilities in India which are polluting the surrounding area. Up to the Indian government to police what goes on there, but where there's poverty people will do whatever they can. Of course there are people in the UK and elsewhere making money from this trade.

Eco-colonialism disguised as sustainability is another trend these days.

You probably could break ships over here, but not while wearing flip-flops and a loin cloth.

Tony.

Yeah, when I lived in Spain it made me smile, they have much the same Health and Safety regs as here, but walk past any building site and the builders are wearing shorts , flip flops/ sandals and no hard hats.
