Urgent ball joint advice required

i changed mine a couple of years ago, fork, hammer and alot of whacking later - nothing, not even slightly budging, alot of cussing later i set there sitting on the removed wheel contemplating my next move and low and behold it suddenly just dropped out by itself, could believe it.

Never underestimate the power of prayer =)) ........ or a bit of effing and blinding

@littlefeller that's funny haha.
I think in the future I'll just be buying the whole arm haha

You've still got to get it loose though, but yes it's better to change the whole arm and all the associated bushes

It's not a good idea to heat the "eye" that the ball joint pin fits into, because if you clout it when hot the metal will stretch and the tapered fit of the pin will be altered. I had this happen to me on a Merc. even doing it cold.

Tony.

@Rudyrov i think that tool could have came in handy today but to be honest the whole lot was over due replacing haha. whilst i was at it i noticed that my engine mounts were pretty well shagged swell so just gonna order them up and do it all at the same time haha. fun filled week ahead of me

HI Derek, I tried a few months back to do the ball joints/control arms and had to go get the tool, mine just wouldn't budge without it. Fortunately, we have a lower cost tool outlet here called Harbor Freight and the tool was almost half price.
Just FYI, I replaced my control arm rear bushings with "M" type bushings, they have better support and tightened up my steering.

i changed the whole arm, it is so much easier, its amazing really what a bit of effin and blinding will do, reminds me of the time i was swearing like a sailor changing the gearbox on sallys old polo, just wouldnt line up (though to be fair i was doing it solo as with all my car maintenance). swearing like mad then pop it goes on, quick put a bolt in it.

Evening all. Just a wee update. New suspension arms fitted new abs sensors fitted and the problem with the corroded dust covers fixed :) the car handles so much better now. Feels like Mario cart again haha. As always thanks for all the help and guidance. Best z forum ever!!!
