so if im a millionaire and dont work, then i only get points, seems a bit daft when the think there are some who are on handouts or low paid jobs but yet they have committed the same offence, but then i suppose a percentage fine irrespective of you income is going to hit the same maybe.

Clearly as a law abiding citizen I have nothing to worry about. Hopefully

No more +10% +1

10%+2 is how the current law is enforced, not the law itself. Too many rely on the fact that their speedo under reads so take 80 as the limit for 70 assuming that at 80 the reading is about +3 so doing 77ish keeping them inside 70+7+2.
One problem is that while most roads limits can be determined from the road type and signage, when you are in them, 20mph cannot be distinguished from 30mph and there is no repitition of the limit. They look identical to 30mph roads. You can pick up a band B fine too easily. Where I work the road is 20 mph yet you can get 6 cars side by side across it.

speed limits are based on reaction times, at 40 mph if you hit someone the chances are they wont survive, so why 40 then, or even 50, it is simply based on your reaction to stop should you need to.
theirs no point in wagging your finger saying oh well if you were speeding then you had it coming, as redline has already pointed out the lower end of the scale is all too easily done with out you even realizing it. fact - everyone will at some point be speeding, not necessarily intentional, we have all done it.
i for one have been lucky as i have no speeding fines and a clean license, however i will put my hand up and say - yes i have been known to go over the limit, not often but usually in the lower end of the limits, like 40 and 50 zones, and as for 20s well its neigh on impossible, you only have to go around some one riding a bike slowly or a mobility scooter and your already speeding.

I think more should be done to stop people looking into their mobiles whilst driving.

I'm in total disbelief that these people drive along not looking at the road ahead, instead looking down into their laps.

I think the penalty should be higher.

The Police sitting on buses in London is a great idea.

Don't speed nowt to worry about. Speed, take your chance. Your call.

Hi Guys, wow that's a huge increase, and with the possible increased Insurance premiums and points on your license for many years...ouch !!!!
Luckily here in France they have a more sensible system.... Here goes... You start with 12 points, when you have lost them you are off the road(banned) Minor offenses they fine you €60 and deduct 1 point, major larger fines & 3 to 6 points according to the offense.
Now here's the good bit, you get all of your points back after a Years worth of driving with out any mistakes.
Also minor offenses (1point) you don't have to inform your Insurance company.
Another good, bit is if you have an EU (British) driving license you don't receive the points.
Yes there are lots of speed cameras but even the new cameras are signed posted 100/200 meters before you get to them.
Also if you loose your license from drink driving (the limit is half what the Uk is!) you normally get banned for 6 months but you are allowed to drive to & from work. (White license) . If you reoffend they can/will take your license away, all is not lost as that means you can buy a Sans Permit car, yes it looks like a yougert pot and only does 50kph but it allows folk still to get about, which is vital here in very rural France

Same old same old, it's designed too increase your county constabulary income, might have a good affect on safety, but again if your a big earner won't necessarily bother you and you'll get your licence back sooner.
Me, well I bought my car for its performance and am retired so can't afford the fines at any cost, so only thing left for me is to fit a HGV limiter. Or bring the wife's Fiat to all the meets with some pics of my Z..............=))=))

Don't get too worked up guys, remember they usually just issue a NIP and standard £100 ? fine with 3 points. These new measures can be introduced, i.e if it goes to court. The chances of all speeding offenses going to court are...... ?

I wish they would do more to catch red light jumpers, mobile use and other dangerous practices. Speed in some places isn't a danger at all and if used correctly can get you out of situations where braking might not. However speeding in built up areas should be clamped down on.

I do use speed appropriately, only got points once( 11 years ago ) from a roadwork camera - doing 56 in 50. At a weekend, no one working and they had finished the job, just hadn't removed the cones etc.

Anyway its not about the speed, but the acceleration ;) :racecar:
