Well hopefully he won't drop a unrealistic bill on you for 'mate rates' but it sounds like your happy with the work. I had a similar situation with my engine rebuild but still landed with a bill a lot larger than expected but the garage where I take mine did give me a break down of the bill with explanations and this was me sourcing most part but only trouble is as soon as you mention ///M word the price racked up but to be fair to the garage a query fault was done for at no charge and a fresh MOT plus I take my wife's car there as well and has done code clearances and other simple jobs for nought.
