Yes £300 supply and fit. They are nice jobs too for that money if you go to the right place.

I've only recently found out what the underseal/stone chip is. It's gravitex and I've bought some in a spray can.

Well that is surely a great price. Funnily enough, i go to Swansea frequently, what are the details of the chap you know there that does it for £285? That's a great price!

Jack Smith Trimmer, rear 158 St Helen's Avenue in town centre near civic hall. Premises are essentially a large domestic garage.

Rarely answers the phone so go see him in person if you're in the area. Nice guy, busy, but still finds time to talk as he works.

I just bought a project car locally and I would lay odds the nearly new roof was done by him. It's in Swansea if you want to see it.

There's a few members on here that have been to Jack for a new roof (Cant remember who), I far as I know they're pleased with them I'm sure there's some posts on here too.

And boy can he talk! And swear =))

Paid £300 for mine back in December, well worth it, quality is excellent and he will do different colours if you ask him. Got mine in pretty quick but I did have it done a couple of days before Christmas. Don't go forking out £700 plus for a new one supplied and fitted, the sellers are just overcharging you to fit it, the quality is no different. The guy at Croydon is also worth a visit, he is closer to £400 now but again I had one from him on my old zed and was very pleased. Jack Smiths will do a great job, no brainer really if your in that area frequently. @yocky z3 2.0 had one from him a few weeks back as well.

I am so glad I signed up to this forum. That's saved me £300 as I would definitely have paid the £600 I thought it was going to cost. I'll get in contact with him over the summer with a view to getting it done in the autumn.

With regards to the wing mirrors; I ordered them yesterday and they are being delivered tomorrow along with a new gear knob, chrome heater rings and aerial grommet. I'll post pics if anyone wants?

Thanks to all of you for all your help so far

Well I got the new parts today and fitted them. The wing mirror frames from x8r are spot on, easy to replace and solid. The service from them was excellent and delivery was really fast. Replaced both sides. There was no problem with the passenger side but it means I won't encounter it further down the line and the bases can be resprayed with the rest of the car.

* this means I have the passenger side frame available for sale if anyone is interested? *

The gear knob is also cracking. Got it from eBay, if anyone wants the link I will post it and in my opinion it actually looks better quality than the OEM part. Real leather on it too.

The chrome rings for the heater console really lift the interior. I am planning to get the chrome surround for the hazard lights button and also the chrome surrounds for the two window switches.

Over the weekend I am going to get stuck in shuffling the body panels around to make sure all the shut lines are even.

Might have a go at trying to get the headlights clearer too. Any tips on this? The headlight repair stuff is like £30 so any ideas on cheaper ways to do it?

Thanks!

Use of Brasso or Silvo metal cleaner as a polishing compound works well on headlamps, toothpaste also achieves good results at minimum outlay.

Agree with this, did on my old 79 Vespa speedo dial.
Autosoll is another great inexpensive polish that I use for the exhaust tips (with some steel wool on the insides to get rid of the carbon, works superb).
Works well on headlights.

The minute they make it a 'kit' the price trebles!!

I've bought some headlight laminate spray to seal them after a polish - cant temper which one bit was on eBay or amazon and far cheaper than the kits (which don't seem to contain much actual product).

T-Cut will work and a lot of elbow grease and believe it or not toothpaste will also work and get them smelling minty fresh.

Toothpaste works well with a buffing wheel in my experience, also good for polishing the wife's jewellery. Also how much for the arm parts, I need a spring, tube and retainer to get my Ashbandicoot (RIP)side mirror onto my car with the sticker on it? JIM

The only places I have seen (and had roofs from) for the cheaper prices are either Jack Smiths in Swansea (£300) and Soft Tops in Croydon (£350 but more like £400 now). The further north you go the more money you pay, £600 seems to be cheap for a fully fitted roof up north. It's worth a day trip and over night stay at one of the cheaper places and you will still have change in your pocket compared to some of the prices I've seen. These are they only 2 places I've seen at the cheaper price, everyone else want's at least double.
