I'm doing some work on my doors at the moment, adjusting the glass, fitting new vapour barriers and I am going to have a go at restoring the mirror bases and servicing the twisty bits.

While the door cards are off I thought I'd have a go at cleaning up the tweeter grilles.

I started off with 20 mins in the ultrasonic cleaner, loads of crud came out but I could still see some, so I gave it a going over with a stiff brush and stuck it back in. Mistake!!

No idea what happened, but it dried patchy and milky. Damn. I also discovered some of the detritus I was hoping to remove was actually rust on the grille itself.

A few light coats of black Hammerite and clear coat and they're back to their former glory!

Black Hammerite has to be up there with the most useful things to keep in the garage. It gives baby wipes a run for their money in usefulness.

Satin Black is my "Go to".

Tony.

I put some black felt on the inside of my tweeters during my refurb.

+1 for Tony's Satin Black.

That's interesting, do you have any pictures? And what are the benefits?

Provides a very black look so you don't see the tweeter ring...doesn't affect sound quality.
