With the ok off the boss I'm going to start a build thread on the TVR, Thought you guys might like something different to read. Also I don't really find writing in forms with people I don't know enjoyable.

I will skim over some of the earlier months that I've mentioned in other threads.

The day I picked her up I had a 250mile trip back through Snowdonia

Next is a dash shot, Note the engine temp and oil pressure. Temp should never go above 110 and you should hear fans running. The oil pressure should not drop below 39psi ish.

So far I have been compiling a list of jobs to do over the winter once I get some free time. First being the oil feed pipe that come from the sump to the oil filter seems to be leaking.

At least the leaking oil is stopping the chassis from rusting lee. Looks good underneath, funny repair on the oil pipe.

Hi @Lee definate homemade affair that oil pipe. Find your friendly Pirtek guy and they will make one up or have one on the shelf and one that isn't in as many pieces.

Not very impressed in the fixings of the oil pipe or clutch hose as cable ties are usually temporary or lazy.

I am sure when you have finished Lee it will be up to your usual standards and look forward to seeing it sometime next year.

Right first instalment, Me and Gary centralised the Cerb in the garage because of the really long doors its crucial to get the car central. We also had to assess where to place the stands because unlike normal cars with Chassis the TVR's have space frames, already knowing this I ordered some rubber pucks so I wont damage the powder coated frame(£3.00 EBay special).

The first issue I wanted to tackle was the leaking oil hose. This also left me scratching my head because from what I can see its not standard fitment. Basically at some point the oil hose has been doubled in length and fed round the back of the engine. The first photo shows what it looks like with the extra length removed and it still would fit without it.

The offending split hose (looks homemade)

Big question is why????? (my only thought is possible extra cooling but It wont do much)

Next we took a quick look at the Master cylinder that gave up.

So I have looked around and cant see any oil lost from the system I'm assuming I lost it in the cabin which would tie in with it being the most common fault for the clutch system. The system also uses an odd type of oil "typ200"

The last thing that's been bothering me is the length of the gear knob, I find sometimes my knuckles clash with the stereo so today I will be machining it an Inch shorter.

I always thought super cars were supposed to be lightweight... Pushing that thing around is a nightmare, coupled with the upwards slope just outside the garage door. No power steering as we can't start the engine as the ECU is out for repair (not sure if Lee covered that yet), and trying to turn the wheels when it isn't moving is nigh impossible.

That said it is quite a fun car to work on because there is so little information available on them, so each task generally involves a lengthy discussion about (A) whether it's correct as it is, or (B) is there a different way it should fit. Usually with Zeds we'd jump on here if stuck, but it would appear a high percentage of other TVR owners don't know a lot mechanically as their cars are fixed for them...

Really looking forward to this write up as well.
To be honest, it is great to see and read about work being done on a different make of car and especially as this is one of my favorites.

Little update, Turns out the oil pipe setup is OEM although it may not look like it. So I got a replacement made up at my local hydraulics company, he made it while we were chatting about cars. It seems TVR midway through production decided to shorten the run from the oil cooler.

I also got time during the week to machine down the Gear knob and fit a Torlon bush so the heat wont transfer up the shaft (yes it gets really hot) It was also an old-school thread size 1/2" luckily working on an MOD base we have plenty of that around.

The master cylinder was a strange one, I couldn't find any leaks so I topped the system and bled it which seems to have done the job for now. Only thing I could spot was how close the lines ran to the exhaust.

I have managed to find myself another temp ECU to use while mine gets sorted. The TVR community are very friendly and helpful.

Lee out.

If there is no heat shield for the brake pipes from the exhaust that may cause bubbles to form in the fluid Lee. That would give rise to a spongy pedal or even fluid evaporation over time?

I think this is what the people of Blackpool call character...I sure hope the Big Dipper roller coaster doesn't use the same company as TVR did for the pipe work!

Or you could argue its engineering genius making a supercar ownership less painful as 10yrs + down the line you can fix it yourself for pennies rather than order a discontinued part at extortionate prices from a main dealer!
